Because I don't want to press check and think it's dumb. Ok so... Move on with life. If I wash my car 5 times a week does that mean you have to? No but everyone has to push their view and thoughts and beliefs on everyone else.

And again I got specific about the term is because mr jr member figured hed challange me on not knowing what a press check is. So I let him know exactly where the actual term came from and got technical about it to shut him up and show I do know a little something every now and then.

If most of you would read the whole thread you could see I already explained that and squashed this whole debate on that and explained my point and why I got so technical.

And if you don't like my beliefs or way I do things too bad. Go f your self lol

So you guys are just bestif a dead horse and asking why did I say this when I have already explained it in a previous post. So read think and discover. It's all already been explained by me. You don't get it then oh well. I'm don't defending lymphoid I think I explained and covered it quite well.
The reason you are catching so much grief is that this is a safety issue. You might as well be arguing with us about muzzeling people or walking around with your finger on the trigger. There are basic dos and dont's to shooting. Being disciplined about chamber checks is a major do. I and others were really nice about it and tried to explain it out logically with lots of real life examples of why it is important. A few people were rude. You let those rude people tick you off and you closed your mind to reason and now you are really ticking off the people who were nice about it by being so bull headed.

If you took this attitude in a course you would be sent home immediately. Thanks for the $160-$2K, bye bye now!

If you took this attitude and we were shooting buddies, we would not be shooting buddies anymore and you would never be armed in my presence again.

If you took this attitude and were stationed with me (back in the day), you would be adminstratively discharged within a week...career over.

It is not a minor thing and your attitude about it just makes it worse.

Based on your statements you are unsafe. No ifs ands or buts about it. Worse, you refuse to take advice from people who care and want to help you and most of all know what they are talking about. That's just dumb. I'm not saying that to be mean. I'm saying it because you need the reality check. I don't want to see you hurt yourself or somebody else.

Umm, try actually listening to the audio, he's explaining that it's stupid and shouldn't be done. He's not advocating that as the correct procedure and as a point to demonstrate that it's idiotic, it's also entirely possible that the gun is incapable of firing(firing pin could be removed, this is how people get away with sweeping a crowd of thousands at SHOT show with hundreds of guns on the floor being played around with and dry fired by the general public, notice the orange tags in SHOT show videos). If I personally disable my own firearm from firing, no magazine, and no ammo in the vicinity I have no problem simply waving my hand in front of the muzzle.

Now he could have also just used a plastic dummy barrel, since that's a heck of a lot easier to swap than pulling a firing pin but whatever. Youtube safety nazis are annoying, don't be one(the typical behavior is along the lines of "OMG, he didn't demonstrate to us 15 times on camera that the chamber was empty before he field stripped it!", at least you didn't do that).

CK_32... dude... you're wrong it's that simple. If you're incapable of pulling the slide part way back without ejecting the round, you must have the dexterity of a horse. Also, who cares about the semantics? Press, pull, visual, feeling the cartridge, it's not the point. If you can visually see the round in the chamber with the slide part way back, fine. If you can't, check it with your finger. Relying on a LCI is a bad practice, it's like relying on a manual external safety. They can fail. "How can a LCI fail?" simple, not all of them are the extractor and have that much spring tension. On some guns the LCI is not an external extractor that you can feel with your finger and is just a little tab with a small spring that can get crud in it causing it to be stuck in the "loaded" position. Seriously, it's that simple.

press check=confirmation of weapon status and should be preformed every time you handle a weapon. the only time i can guarentee a weapon status is if i have press checked and the weapon has not left my hands... that's my 2 cents

What the heck are you talking about? So people like me carrying a handgun concealed is supposed to sling a rifle too? From some of your recent posts I've read, you seem to be a young enthusiastic guy so maybe you should try a little more reading up and maybe some reputable training.

Please explain how you pull a slide back on a pistol with one hand while maintaining site on your target or down range. That is what a press check is for hense the word "press". The point of a press check is to make sure you have a round in the chamber when being ready to fire while maintaining a visual on your target with out having to look at the chamber of a rifle to confirm you have a loaded chamber.. That is a proper press check.

With a pistol all you do is load the mag rack the slide and pull the pistol down and pull the slide back to see down from the top of your pistol look down and see if you see brass. Which again isnt a press check. It is then a visual check. But if you want to look down the barrel to see if its loaded be my guest You wont be doing it long.

Please stop embarrassing yourself, press checks tend to be done before you leave your home/base etc.. after you needed to unload for whatever reason. For instance when i need to wipe down or clean my carry gun, I unload, clean it, insert a loaded mag, chamber a round, drop the mag and top off, insert the magazine and do a quick press check (Not needed with my M&P's), make sure it's 100% in battery before I holster it.
