    Colt 1991A1 Commander

    Colt 1991A1 Commander;
is it s good gun, is it comparable to the 1911?
whats the deal with this gun?
what would be a good price to pay for one in 95% condition.

thanks in advance for your comments

    Ah it is a 1911 - Just with a shorter barrel -

Too many variations to be able to give you a ballpark pricing -

Tell us what you're looking at -

I have a 60's colt commander (alloy frame) in .45, it is not very nice to shoot but a great gun never the less. If you get a commander and it is not for CC then get a steel frame.

Check out them in 9mm as well. I have been looking for a 9mm slide and barrel for my commander for sometime now.

If you ever decide to get rid of it, I'd love a lightweight commander, those guns rock

i dont recall what year the serial placed it at.
seems it was a 500k series number might have been 051xxx
or something like that., it would be tuesday before i could make sure.
I dont think it was a combat commander, i think just commander, not stainless

Tripper, check with m1911.org, they have a write up on the gun you are asking about. Its a very good gun by the way.

i dont recall it saying "combat commander" only 'commander'
on one side it has "1991A1" very bold and big, on the other side I'm sure has just the word "commander"
i only got a brief look at it, so could be off a bit

Combat Commanders are the older all steel Commanders (some pre Series 80, some Series 80). The 1991 a newer all steel commander with the firing pin safety that's a great gun, even if the rollmarks are ugly. You could always grind those down.

Actually, the new rollmark 1991's aren't to bad. The old rollmarks though....

The 1991 commander was my first 1911. Loved that gun. It was given to me on my 21st birthday by my stepdad. I put lots of rounds through it and it did very well. Had a couple of ftf's until I picked up some good mags. It really liked the CMC power mags. After I started running those, I never had any problems with it. For what it's worth, mine loved TAP. Ended up giving it back a few years later because it was the right thing to do, but I miss that gun.
