Should I clean my glock?

I don't clean a lot of my guns for this same reason. A person who cleans their pistol religiously doesn't know if it will work when it's dirty. For example, if you cleaned your .50 Desert Eagle after every 8 rounds, you would never know that after 100 rounds it will start failing because those pistols are so freaking dirty.

I can tell you my Glock 21 and my FNP-45 will shoot with zero issues after not being cleaned or lubed for over 3,000 rounds. I can also tell you they will shoot with zero issues after being cleaned. You can only tell me your gun shoots with zero issues when it's clean. You can't say how it will perform in less than perfectly clean circumstances.

A person who doesn't stress their primary guns at all is taking a risk. Personally, I prefer to remove some of that risk by pushing harder on anything I would ever depend on. Novelty guns, fun guns, guns that I shoot just for enjoyment or precision work, those guns get cleaned religiously. Life saving guns, I do everything I can to make sure they will work, under all situations.

At least that's how I look at it. Do what makes you happy.

^^ Everything he said. I totally baby my Garand, but it's not my AR or my Glock. My black guns had darned well better work dirty, all I've been doing the last few trips to the range is running some bore cleaner through, letting it sit, boresnake, then oil. No problems yet after a couple cases of ammo....

Yea so I just broke out my glock and the barrel still has a slight coat of lube on it and the slide rails are still slick. I think she's ok to go.

Bore snake and a quick wipe down is all I do on my poly gun. lil oil if its dry.

I do a lot more of a clean on my CZ. Also use grease on it though.

I do grease the rails on my Poly though, just stays place better.

CK_32 have you ever tried Froglube?

I bought some after reading that huge thread to see how it works for myself. Anyways I've been running it in one gun for about a month now a brand new HK45. I haven't ran into any problems I've only shot it 3 times so far and about 900 rounds I've cleaned it twice once after the first 300 and once after the last 600. I can't yet comment on if I will use it on my other pistols mainly because I don't like the idea that it apparently eats other solvents and/or lubricants. I like to run grease on metal to metal parts and I don't know what will happen if I need to use copper solvent.

The moral is FrogLube makes cleaning the gun so easy it really does suspend the carbon and have seen patches come out with a blue tint. All I need to do is wipe all the parts with a couple of patches and add a little more and its done. I don't like cleaning my firearms much but when I do I'm very anal about it. FL really makes cleaning very very easy its like washing a city car or something everything just comes off its really amazing.

Glocks are made to be roughed up, I take good care of mine just tho, its a fun gun.You don't have to drench it in solvent every time but a quick clean after a couple hundred rounds will help with the longevity.on top of that, Glock parts are easy to replace.

With my Glocks, I just take a q-tip with some CLP or Rem oil and clean the feed ramp after 500 rounds or so. I'll detail strip and clean everything every 1-2K rounds. No issues yet.

If I plan on shooting them more than once in a week, I'll wait, but I'll usually clean them at the end of the week if they were used.

I find that the more frequently you keep the gun clean, the easier it is to keep clean. When you let it stay dirty and continue to shoot it, the carbon fouling in your moving parts and all inside your frame and slide just accumulate and becomes difficult to remove later on.

Also, the patches turning blue is due to copper removal from your barrel.

Yes, you can clean it too much. Field cleaning is fine with a basic bore snake or patch or two down the barrel but it would be excessive to clean it until its shiny as new. You will wear those parts much quicker. Personally I have better things to do with my time. If I were to shoot 3-5 times a week, then probably a weekly field clean might be sufficiant.
