    Should I clean my glock?

So I got my new glock and I clean it then next day go to the range. Pit a few rounds through it then clean and end up goin to the range the next day...

I feel like I'm pointlessly cleaning my glock when I just go out and use it that day and am starting to want to just clean it every weekend.

Do you guys think I'm over cleaning it or should clean it after every range trip. I've gone out 3 times a week since I got it.

And I know glocks can run dirty so should I just leave it be and clean it every weekend and let it be dirty for 2 or 4 days. Just for range use this isn't for hd right now..

Keep it clean. If it's too much bother, then get a bore snake and run it through when you are done shooting then forget about it.

There is no harm in having a very clean gun.

I clean my Glocks every 500 rounds or so. Use a good lube like Slip 2000 that doesn't burn off easily helps.

I shoot about 12,000 to 15,000 rounds a year in competition and only detail strip the Glocks twice a year. They will run dirty as long as there is some lube but they start burping when the gun is both dirty and dry. I do run a bore snake thru after each match and add lube about every 3rd time.

I don't think you can really over clean anything I would stay away from harsh chemicals or brushes unless needed. If its still shooting and lubricated keep shooting it until the weekend I don't personally like torture testing my weapons. Not that your suggesting it just MO I clean all my weapons and keep them in good shape and look for problems you can't see under carbon and debris.

Ok cleanly the barrel and field stripping and detail cleaning are 2 differant things. I just hate cleaning it daily. I feel like I'm over doing it and paranoid of having a clean gun. It's a machine tool it doesn't need to be spotless but at the same time it doesn't need to be dripping with sludge.

But I don't want to baby the gun like it's a piece of china. That's my whole thing I know having a clean gun doesn't hurt. But I don't want to clean her down to new when it's not absolutely needed.

And a weekly cleaning seems fair unless I know for a fact I'm done for the week ormonth I'll clean it then. Not going to let it sit dirty for weeks just sit dirty for a day.

              I can see it now....

If you keep shooting 3 times a week, you're gonna have to get another job or start reloading..!

I run a swab thru the barrel after I get home from the range. It cleans out the gunk on the ramp. After about 4 range trips I remove the slide, barrel and take some time cleaning the weapon.

However, If I had only one GUN and used that GUN for home/car defense, it would be clean as can be everyday.

              Be well, Bob

And that's another thing I'm using bore clps and bore cleaning solitaire like hoppes #9 and something else thatturns blue when you wipe it clean. I use it on my rifles.

Then I clean and lube the slide then qtip the frame parts get them semi clean lube the slide rails and put her back together.

Well I got a bulk pack of reloads for the cheap and I'm honestly blowing through it so I can start reloading it haha as crazy as that sounds.

And that's exactly what I was looking to do and the answer I was hoping for. Thanks again as always bob.

I just feel like I'm wasting all my cleaning supplies and time detail cleaning it literally 3 to 4 times a week.

You need to understand that cleaning a Glock is damn near optional. Cleaning it 3 times per week is a huge waste of time. Hell, cleaning it once a month is a month is a waste of time. Clean it if you get a thrill from cleaning it, but know that it's totally unnecessary.

Like Highlander51 said, Glocks can go thousands and thousands of rounds without being cleaned, and run as good as new. I put 3 thousand rounds through my old 21 without cleaning it. Not a hiccup.
