Cracked forcing cone on GP100

Cleaning my GP100 last night and found out that I had cracked the forcing cone. Bummer. Looks like new barrel time.

Wow that would be a picture to see man. Do you have one? Round count? Year made and such? Sucks but im thinking Ruger would make it right have you contacted them?

Just noticed it last night. No picture yet. Round count unknown, I bought it used. Also don't know what the previous owner was shooting through it. I've been using 125 gr. Hornady XTP's over 22 gr. of H110/W296 with a Remington 5 1/2 primer. No signs of overpressure, ejection has been smooth and easy, no primer flattening or cratering, no issues with casings. I bought the GP100 specifically because it was supposed to not have issues with that load according to everything I've read. So far probably about 2K rounds through it with no evidence of flame cutting or other problems to this point. I am going to call Ruger tomorrow. Never heard of a cracked cone in a GP100 before. Love the gun and worth rebarrelling whether I pay or they pay. Would be nice if they do. Probably ship through my LGS because I've seen the cost of shipping through Fedex and UPS ($$$).

Call them fine folks up and inquire! I own a GP100 6" stainless and if I were you, I'd already be on the phone with them acquiring a return authorization number!

Yup. Ruger will cover that. Shouldn't have happened with any loads that didn't grenade the barrel.

on the serious note, i had a jennings 380 and the barrel cracked on me as all jennings do after two rounds. Since it's all one piece i couldn't order the part, and the part would most likely cost more then the gun, so i used JB weild on it, and haven't had a problem since, maybe 1k rounds through her without a problem. BTW i gave this gun to someone that wanted something really cheap to shoot, telling them exactly what the problem was.

Yes, Ruger has a great "warranty." They have no warranty--they will just fix any gun that has not obviously been abused, you know, like using the gun for a hammer or something. Call them up and I am imagining that they will urge you to send the gun in for repair at little or no cost. They don't like defective Rugers out there.

So I called Ruger this morning and the customer service rep I talked to gave me detailed instructions for shipping it to them in NH and said they would evaluate it and see what was needed. Very nice guy. Even made a point of abbreviating the company's name on the box so it will say S,R,&C. instead of Sturm Ruger & Co. cause "let's not make it look like a gun going back to the factory". Got a kick out of that. Gotta get a pic of it then box it and send it off in a day or two. Then we will see what they say.

OK, so after the last post I went in and got the camera and shot a picture of the damage.

Looks like there is also erosion around the cone as well.

Wow, well im quite sure Ruger will make it right I have heard countless stories of Ruger doing right by people with repairs. Most negatives were in regards to getting firing pins/ parts that Ruger has a policy on not giving out.

I had to send my KP90 back to Prescott & their service was top notch. They weren't very specific about the repairs tho, but it worked when I got it back in about 2-3 weeks. Ruger CS is known to be VERY good.

Well, got it sent to Ruger. Should get there tomorrow. Sent it Fedex overnight (OUCH!! Should've remembered to bring lube!!!!) Anyway, I'm waiting now to hear from Ruger.
