So I finally got my Glock 17 RTF in 9mm. After the long wait period its
finally in my hands. Anyways I took it out to the range last night and this
morning to see how it does and if it fits me and if I like the features of the
RTF. Well simple enough. I do I love it.

Anyways I got to pick up my glock before I went into work and after work I
headed out to the range to test her out. Make sure she even shoots and
functions. I got it off of a trade from another gunner and he did a few things
to it. The previous owner got Glocks factory night sights installed and a 3.5#
trigger connector put in. Let me say they both make a huge difference. Felt
the lighter trigger pull right away and the night sights are way easier to pick up.
So Ive noticed a lot of people complain about the grip being too aggressive
and the gills looking ugly. I was one of the people who wasnt a fan of the
gills for the longest time. After making the trade and seeing them in person
they don't look all that bad. I was told they have a better design to grip your
hands when racking the slide. That I didn't notice. Seemed to have the
same grip as the lined slides on the standard gen 3 Glocks. One thing I do like is the grip.
The grip is a major plus and upgrade over the standard gen3 Glocks. I have sweaty
hands and when I cleaned it for the first time after the range I couldn't even
grip the slide to rack it I had some lube left on my hands. But as
soon as I grabbed the grip it felt like I was holding a normal glock dry as can be.

One down side is that for females or guys with softer more sensitive hands it
can be a little more aggressive. Found out today when my girlfriend shot a
couple strings and showed me her hand was red with little holes from the
grip. I dont feel a thing when gripping it if anything its more comfortable.
Then again I do have more on the rough side of hands.
Took a picture of her hands to show you guys what I'm talking about.

But like I said if you have rougher hands you don't feel it and it feels quite
nice. Like I said the other feature of the gills isn't that much of a upgrade or
downgrade its just there. I actually grew to liking the look of them. The 3.5
connector that was put in is a dream compared to the factory 5.5lb
connector. I noticed that my groups went from about 10" to about 4" @
25ft. Not the best of groups but hey its what I do.
Another thing about the RTF model I have is that it came with factory night
sights. These make it way easier to aim and pick up your sites with the 3
dot system. I did notice I started shooting more to the left more often than
not until I figured I'd just adjust for the day. Come to find out they are on
and way to the right of the slide. So Im going to have to get that fixed. But
its good to know the sights are off and its not me pulling. The night sights
helped tremendously with my groupings as well and played a part in
shrinking my average groups. Last night when doing my little photo shoot
after my range trip ad cleaning I remembered I had night sights. So I pulled
it out of the case and to my surprise they are as bright as people talk
about. Always thought people played them up. I tried taking a picture in the
dark but my IPhone just wouldn't pick them up in the dark. But they
function great in the day or night time.

At first I was looking to sell this as soon as I could and make some $$ and
just go out and buy a standard Glock gen 3 and call it a day due to me not
liking the "fish gills" and the grip being eh ok. But after actually using it and
taking it out to the range I have grown to like the gills and the texture is
actually almost to die for IMO. Simply amazing how much grip it gives you
even with wet sweaty/ lubed soaked hands. The RTF model may not be for
everyone on the looks department or on the function side of it but if any
one would ask me about the RTF I would highly recommend it over the
standard gen3's as long as you don't have sensitive hands this gun will
really be a great one to keep in the collection or even better for a first gun.
If your looking into getting a Glock I say if you can afford it opt for the
factory night sights or some type of night sights for your system. They are a
great cheap and easy upgrade to add. Just make sure they are on straight
lol And if your not sure of going for a Glock at all or on the fence for your
first hand gun I think Glocks are great first guns due to the reliability and
the simplicity of function take down and maintenance. There are other great
choices but a Glock is a great option to consider as well.

Well that's my $.02 on the RTF model with the good the bad and the ugly. I hope this helps or
answers anyone's questions about the RTF features or was worth the read.
3 SEPT 11 UPDATE: just finished doing a $0.25 trigger job. The pull feels "smoother" more
than less poundage on the pull. The pull doesn't slide and then hit a spot then slide smooth again
to me it feels more like it made it more consistent pull all the way down. I was expecting more
But it wasn't that amazing of an upgrade. Maybe it's because I have the 3.5 connector in already
but I don't feel too much of a change. Makes since since all you do is polish all the parts for the pull
Reducing friction. So makes since that's exactly what I feel.
