Wow, some of you guys got pretty wound up over the OP's comments.

Take a deep breath and relax. Just because someone does not care for the square gun style does not mean your world has ended. Just buy what you like and enjoy it.

I think why some people got wound up was because the O.P. seems to be letting his visual preferences sway his mind into believing that these so called "less pretty" guns have less function. He even believes the edges will wear down from holster use, etc. When most of us know that these "blocky" guns can be very utilitarian and possibly tougher than what might be seen as "finer" pieces. At least that's the impression that the first post gives.

Honda Civics might be ugly to some Ferrari owners, but that doesn't mean you can't put a quarter million miles on one engine in that little Honda.

My apologies sir. You've been shooting longer than I've been breathing and had I known your experience or age I wouldn't have responded the way I did.

To me your original post sounded like a 21 year old kid that just bought his first 1911 and was trying to justify his hate for square pistols.

I would however encourage you to try a square pistol. You may be surprised in the way they shoot, handle, carry.

I have three +$2k pistols in my safe. I respect my $500 square ones just as much for their simplicity, reliability, and durability.

I erred in posting the thread overall, but how to address the issue without addressing the issue? That is, several mfgrs. are going towards this type of design with all 'square' edges, all straight lines etc. which I find less than desireable. Obviously opinion on my part, but as mentioned I fail to see the direct advantage in functionality, though some may look pretty cool, some.

I've owned a lot of guns over the years and from that I know where the wear occurs on a firearm: primarily the edges that drag against leather. You may lube a holster to help prevent other surfaces from wearing so hard, but sharp edges are guaranteed to wear from contact with leather. They're also hard on the leather.

When re-holstering those sharp edges are far more prone to catch or drag, and certainly accidents are known to happen when re-holstering: why add to the possibility of accidents?

There were countless pistols made from the '08 on through the 70's that were attempts at a 'modern look' according to the times, of rounding & smoothing various parts etc. Many of these look pretty outdated to us now, though there's a heavy nostalgia factor for collecting.

I tried to make it clear that it seems to me mfgrs' are simply taking the quick, cheap & easy route instead of going the extra mile of smoothing off sharp edges and completing the job of finishing metal work. They may save money but I don't personally care for the results.

Some cool guns there! I had a VP70Z, quite the monster! The civilian version lacked the shoulder stock which allowed full-auto operation via a disconnector. It was a nice gun, extremely well made, but the DA trigger is by far the worst I ever tried. Other than that, fairly accurate & very HK reliable.

I noticed that too. It's like evey fanboy decided the OP was attaching his personal favorite.

I admit I prefer to shoot guns that have some style to them.
