Which Glock to keep/sell? Input sought

This is switch on the reviled 'which gun should I buy 'thread, but it's which one to keep/sell.

Without getting into particulars, I have to cull my herd and part of the arms reduction equation means one of my 2 glock 17's will be kept the other made to go bye-bye.

I've got thoughts, but looking for some additional consideration points to include in my decision process.

First: early Generation 1 (AAU1xxUS serial number).
It's had more than a few thousand rounds through it, looks nearly new. In fact the only visible wear is on the top of the barrel just behind the ejection port. An ever so slight line of light finish wear. Other than that, it looks pristine.

Second: recent purchase Gen 3, 2009 purchase.
Shot once, 100 rounds or so, 200 max.
Obviously LNIB condition.

I'm the original owner of both. Have all original accessories, manuals, etc.

Looking for some ideas of what may tip the scales to keep one vs. the other.

Potential thoughts: collectibility (by my calc's Gen 1 within first 50K imported into the US), performance of older vs. newer generations, endurance of same, etc.

Any thoughts/ideas, etc. welcome. I know I hate the what should I buy, etc. But it's more of seeking ideas of what attributes/characteristics I may be missing.

Kind of like deciding which kid to leave at the orphanage.

Lets make it simple keep the new gun and I will give you another new gun a Glock19 for your older Glock17, you can even keep the magazines. You can sell the magazines for $30 each as rebuild kits. You will now have a G17 and a G19 with $60 in your pocket .

Edit; Keep the Gen1 you will be glad you did as time passes. You will aways be able to replace the Gen3 but less and less "A" condition Gen1's.

Well, as a glock nut myself with 17 GLOCKS in my safe right now, I would sell the May 1992 GLOCK (Gen 2) and keep the later model Gen 3.

AAU indicates a May 1992 born date, which is GEN 2. I just sold two 1988 GEN ones, not really a market for older GLOCKS. Maybe in 50 years, but not now.

I did keep one 1992 GEN 2 (ACK which is July 1992, on the left) and a 2009 Glock 17 OD Gen 3.

(my 14 year old daughter likes the gen 2 so much, I can't sell it. It will be her weapon at age 18, among others.hehehe)

But I've sold another 3 Gen ones and two in the last year.

Maybe if you have a NIB Gen one from 1986 it would have some collector value. But your GEN 2 isn't that collector piece right now.

Why do you guys think used mags are worth $30?? You guys know you can buy rebuilds online for $25 shipped and 10 rounders for $22 shipped right? I don't know why people on here list their USED mags for $35... And people are actually paying for it.... I just don't get it. Idk why everyone has to make a steal on the classifieds and not be honest and sell things for what they are worth.


Anyways to the OP. I'd keep your gen3 unless you have sentimental value into that gen1 they are worth big $$ not I can't imagine in a few years. Unless you shoot better with one than another then obviously keep that one. But I'd keep the gen1 if you don't shoot often or the gen 3 and break her in. I'm more of a modern is better guy so take it how you may. I say keep the gen3. But then again if you want to buy another glock it's easy to find a gen3.. Not a gen1 so make sure you won't want another one if you sell the gen1. Have to keep that in mind also.

for me, it'd boil down to the finger grooves and the accessory rail. if you want/need those things, then the Gen 3 is clearly the way to go.

I am slightly more optimistic than some that Gen 2 guns will have a modest increase in value somewhat soon simply because they're no longer made, and there are people out there who don't like the finger grooves, or who have holsters that won't accommodate the rails, and they really want an early gun. And some people just like to have 1 of everything.

But I don't see that being worth more than a $50/100 premium at best - and then other people will pay less for a Gen 2 because it's older.

So I think it's a wash, financially, and it just boils down to your sentimental feelings (if any) about the guns and how the different features fit into your life.

As of the OP, if Oceanbob is correct than it would come down to why you are selling it. If its for money then sell the newer one.

The sad part is thats a normal price point people have been offering me to my WTB mag thread.... Thats why I had to add I dont NEED these.. I want these in bold... Because im not that desperate I just want some extra mags.

Some offers say I add $5 for shipping on top of that...

Best part is when I say not interested or if you have a price drop let me know I've had 3 people actually get mad and act like I'm being ridiculous for not taking their offer. Thats the worst part about it. When you offer them a realistic price. They get mad and yell low ball and get offended.

3 questions Oceanbob, first how did you get the Glock white lettering on the slides of both of those G17's? I have an idea of what it is (white crayon?) but am not sure.

Second, so let me get this straight, as long as you got that 33 rounder before the ban took place you can legally transport it and also shoot it at the range???

And third I thought you had to be AT LEAST 18 and a CA ID to go to the range and shoot a handgun if I remeber correctly please inform me if otherwise as I've been wanting to take my 17 year old younger brother to the gun range.
