    Browning Hi-power

I have recently taken a liking to the Hi-Power but am trying to narrow it down brand wise. I most definitely do not want to spend more than 900ish and do not mind if its used. I realize there's FN/Browning/Charles Daly and some others. What has the best bang for the buck if I'm not wanting to go for something super expensive. I'm liking the look of the newer ones rather than WW2 era ones.

    This one

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

FN/Browning are the only true HPs. Charles Daley, FM, etc. are clones, some better than others.

I suggest you check out these forums:

Here is your special forum, for those who think that Hi Power was the epitome of JMB's designs.Anything related to the Hi-Power can be discussed in here.

I heard the value on the Charles Daly was very good but true it is only a clone. I like the link previously posted and wouldn't mind one but I like the idea of the commander hammer too.

for 900 you should be able to find a gently used MKIII, which I would go with personally.

I got one of the Israeli imports. While it was night, the barrel bushing was so blown out I couldn't put it on paper at 10 yards.

Have a practical tactical Hipower about 400 rounds shot for 800.

The difference between FM and CD is that FM is licensed although their most recent versions does not have the typical taper on the barrel end of the slide. CDs are just FEGs with improved features.

I paid $499.00 for a 1970s version in excellent shape - no muzzle wear, no scratches, no marks and it came with the "Browning" carrying case. I know that's a very good price, but I don't look all that hard and there are always deals out there. I'd stay on the lookout for a "real one" and not a clone.

By "barrel bushing" I presume you mean the built-in bushing that is unfortunately non-replaceable, right? Yeah, that definitely would suck if that part of your slide was worn.. you're pretty much out of luck at that point.

You should be able to locate a fine used, late model Browning or FN marked Hi Power for about $700 or so, sometimes a little less---I personally would try for a MK111 model in the "matte" finish as it is a very sturdy finish. Also, I would recommend the 9mm over the 40. I prefer the Browning/FN types over all the clones---look in the for sale threads on Calguns, there are some for sale nearly all the time.

Good deals are out there. I bought a barely, if at all, used 1992 Mk III with 7 mags for $450 a few months ago. You can see them for $700 quite often, too. $800-900 - all the time.

I purchased two brand new BHP Mark III about three months ago. I paid $925 for one BHP I picked up at Field Time Sports and Guns in Westminster and another one for $959 at Fowler in Tustin.

FM WAS licensed but they decided to not pay for it any more that's one of the reasons they have a front 1911 style profile instead of the high power lightening cut style.

So yes FM makes it on old FN tooling but they are no longer licensed
