$2,000 is to much for that. A TRP Operator with a full rail goes for about $1,800-$2,000.

That would sell for about $700.00-$800.00 used, New about $900.00-$1,000.

You could get a brand new Dan Wesson Valor for $1400.

And you buddy must think the value of a gun goes up with each round fired.

Don't do it, you can get a Springfield 1911 TRP for $1400 or Dan Wesson. I would offer $700-$800 for it at most.

the poor blending of the grip safety tells me that someone finished his work poorly (or he could have blended it with the GS engaged, which would be preferred), he said he had it worked on, did the smith leave a mark on it to say he worked on it? If you have something that was built by a good smith, you might have a good deal there, check the dust cover and underneath the grips for marks before you offer him anything
Good saddles ain't cheap...and cheap saddles ain't good

That looks like SA's black/stainless target (different grips): http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=18
Yea, grip safety does look off, but maybe it's just the camera angle.
GoG has MSRP of $1,244, current market price has it at lower.

Anything customizing as with most thing...do not add value to resale.
In the gun world, only adds value is if it can be proven if it is done by certain gun-smiths.

I think you can get a new one (just need to wait to find one) + trigger job from SA, and be under $1,400.

Is he charging $1000 for the custom idiot mark? (im kidding) Can you post pics of the other side of the pistol? Listen to the above posters. Better yet post your location? Someone will steer you to a shop near you. Good luck either way.

I guarantee it wasn't worked on by Ted Yost, Jason Burton or Chuck Rogers...but it could have been worked over by a good smith, let's give him the benefit of the doubt until he finds out otherwise...

OP...be sure to function check it before deciding on purchasing, as with any 1911, I'm telling you this because you said you're not familiar with them, so here's a run down...

                              1. cock the hammer, engage the thumb safety it should move up and down smoothly with an audible click up and down, pull the trigger, the hammer should not fall

                              2. disengage the thumb safety, without depressing the grip safety pull the trigger, hammer should not fall

                              3. disengage the thumb safety and grip safety and pull the trigger, the hammer should fall, while holding the trigger back, rack the slide, the hammer should not fall, if the hammer falls there's a problem

                              4. rack the slide rapidly 3 or 4x, the hammer should not fall, if it does, the sear spring isn't in correctly
Good saddles ain't cheap...and cheap saddles ain't good
