Not to bring on the flames. But what exactly is the lore behind the Python? I realize Colt stopped making revolvers some time ago, so that certainly plays a role. But (and this isn't to disparage anyone's choice in guns) the older Smith revolvers always seemed to be a full step above the Pythons I've handled and fired. Granted. S&W went their own route with those idiotic locks the so callously "engineered" into their current guns...

I'd be surprised if you would see a preserved NIB WWII 1911 command that kind of price in an auction.

      Fit n Finish

I've seen some pretty nice DW revolvers in terms of finish but there are some blue Pythons that just look the best as any I've seen. As for stainless it doesn't do anything for me, but others may like them as I do the blue

The way it looks. The execution has always been inconsistent. Although the early ones were generally better fitted than the later ones. Just look at the sideplate fit. Then compare it to a S&W. I have one from 1962 right now and like it alot.

If the buyer & seller are both happy, it's a win.

I've seen guns that, while nowhere near that league, I thought were priced crazy be gone the next day.

I've owned Ruger and S&W revolvers and none of them ever match the beauty of Colts.

Colts are one of those revolvers I wish my grandpa had and passed it down to me to keep as a family heirloom and shooter. I don't know if I could ever get myself to purchase one myself.

This is the exact reason I bought a Colt Trooper for my Son. It is a Mark III, but it was unfired in the original box. And yes, I gave it to him on his 21st B-day.
I told him to never sell it. if he gets in a real bind for $, I will buy it from him myself.

Yeah even my MKIII trooper is nicer than most other brands revolvers in terms of build quality, fit, finish and QC. That one was marketed as colts 'every mans gun' or work horse. You are a lucky man redford. NIB is gorgeous. Mine was an old LA County Sheriffs dept trade in. Beat to snot finish wise but a very solid shooter even with some of my test reloads. After thousands of full power 357 loads its not even so much as a hair of being loose.

Good move on there. Your son is a lucky man. I'm essentially the first generation in my family that is in to firearm ownership

Man I want one of those royal blue pythons! The stainless however do nothing for me. I've been watching python prices rise steadily since I've gotten into guns and they are falling further and further out of my price range. It's looking I'll have to settle for a gp-100 or 686 or if I'm really lucky a nice blued security six.

Any plans to acquire a 3-in California Combat Python?
