+100 on the sig 226! I purchased one from a old retired leo, he had it sitting under his farm truck seat for 3 yrs. When he pulled it out, I nearly changed my mind! dirty, rusty, bublegum, soda, beer soaked. . . just looked nasty overall. Took it home, cleaned it up, threw away the holster, and it shoots like a dream! Looked worse than the one poster whos sig had rust! I love it now though! Came with 3 "original compacity " mags too!

I don't think you're going to find too many people with a 226 or sigs in general with anything bad to say about them.

I have liked every sig I have ever gotten to try out at the range.

BTW, try out a 225 (p6) before you decide. I personally think it is the best 9mm sig has made. (out of their normal line up of pistols. I've never had a chance to try any of the fancy ones).

Gotta love the 226. A good friend of mine has one and I have put many many rounds through it. I have no complaints, and neither does he. Great smooth trigger, never had any problems what soever. I must say its probably one of my favorites. Im planning on picking one up in the near future. You cant go wrong with a 226!

              My favorite 9mm.

Ergonomic, goes bang every single time I have wnated it to.

It's a bit large, but that's my only gripe.

                I would say this...

I have both a 226 and 229. I tend to shoot the 229 more. I love the balance of it.

Probably my only regret on either is I didn't pick one up in .40, so I could do the .357/40/9mm trick in one gun.

They're so much fun to shoot.

I have a P226 in .40, what do i need to shoot 9mm out of it?

I personally love the P226. I think it fits my hand very well and points naturally. I've never had any mechanical problems with any of my SIGs and all have functioned reliably.

If you are buying used there are two slide materials: stamped carbon steel (older models) and machined stainless steel (newer models). If you are buying new, then you'll get a machined stainless steel slide. If you are buying CPO or used, then you could end up with either. Different people prefer different things. Some say that the older stamped slides are better balanced and feel better. Others say that the newer machined slides are stronger will last longer. I would take opinions with a grain of salt. Both are very well balanced and are strong enough to handle +p loads.

Being that you're a 1911whore , you may not like the Double Action trigger or the transition between DA & SA. The SA trigger isn't as nice as a decent 1911. After training with the P226, you'll feel more comfortable with the transition and trigger pulls. The grip isn't as nice as a single stack P220, but if you have large hands it doesn't seem too bad.

Good luck with your search. I hope you find what you need!

i've got a P228 and it's the most accurate pistol out the box i've ever shot. Only thing that my parallel it's accuracy might be a kimber or colt.

Well here is how it works.

The P229 40SW that I own has magazines marked 40SW/ 357Sig. TO convert this to 357Sig you only need a 357Sig Barrel.

To convert the pistol to 9mm you need the 9imm mags and the 9mm barrel.

My pistol uses all 3 calibers and I have tons of mags.

Sig Sucks! They take up all my money. I have a 226 in 9mm, a 220 .45, and am looking to get a 2022 in 9mm also. Horrible people to make such wonderful products that I contemplate selling my other guns to buy theirs.

I second that, but I know I have the most accurate sig in the house! X-Five 9mm, but I do live my 220R just as much.
