It's simply awesome. I bought a well-worn, police trade-in back in 1997; mine was originally made in West Germany in 1991. Police holster wear gives it a lot of character. I've put around 2K or 3K rounds through it without ANY malfunctions.
The DA pull is smooth, but can be improved by a guy like Bruce Gray http://www.grayguns.com/. The SA pull breaks clean, glass rod. DA/SA transition nor the trigger reset bothers me. I just don't notice it when shooting it under time pressure.
When the U.S. Gov was looking for a replacement for the 1911A1 (JSSAP Pistol Trials), IIRC the P226 was the only gun that went 15,000 rounds without a stoppage. Beretta had one (MRBS) which was within acceptable criteria. And, SIG actually underbid Beretta in cost. But SIG, unlike Beretta, was unwilling to open production here in the States.
Here's mine after sitting in my case for a week, after I put her away dirty after 6 stages of USPSA in 104 degree heat. Don't panic; ALL the rust rubbed right off with CLP. I don't recommend letting dirty guns sit in cases.

My point is, she ain't no safe queen. I bought her so I can crack the whip and to put her to work. She's a workhorse and a damned fine one at that.Last edited by 8200rpm; 10-03-2007, 12:03 PM.Comment

I LUUUUVE my P226 .357 SIG because of the obvious SIG standard of excellence, but it's two guns in one: I just swap out my .357 BBL w/ my 226 .40S&W BBL and there I is!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my 226 9mm. Great gun, reliable and accurate (much more so than me).
The only thing that is a little odd is the feel of the recoil of 9mm in general. It is hard to describe but feels almost like a "wave". I shot my buddies 220 in 45 and really like the crispness of the recoil. It feels much "snappier" if that makes sense.
My next gun is going to be a 45 though I am going a different route and getting a SW625 revolver for the caliber. Will probably end up getting a 220 down the line as well.
So back on topic, the 226 is fantastic and I still do not regret the purchase.Comment

+100 on the Sig 229 in .40!!
I also have a 220 in .45 and much prefer the 229, especially for the trigger pull. The trigger is why I'd been trying to sell my 220 for a while now.
I've since tried my friend's 226 that had a cleaned up trigger and it was quite nice, so I'll keep the 220 and have it worked on.
These are small nit picks, though. Sigs are AWESOME!!Comment

Good gun
I've had a P226 in 9mm since the late 90s, and it has been an excellent gun. I shoot it at the range every couple of months. Mine is in factory electroless nickel finish, made sometime in the early 90s.
The gun was designed for a 15 round magazine, and the use of a 10 round magazine in CA wastes a lot of available space in the grip. I guess for a range gun it doesn't matter, but for a defensive gun you'd like to have the full capacity. Otherwise you'd pick a smaller and more concealable gun designed for a 10 round magazine, I think.
Fortunately my P226 came with the regular capacity magazines.

The SigSauer P226 with its 15 round Magazines and the 20 round magazines I have owned for the last 15+ years makes me feel very confident in its capacity and its accuracy.
In comparison I only have 12 round Mags for my SigSauer P229 in 40SW. which is a very accurate pistol as well.
I give them both two thumbs up.
you cant go wrong with a SigSauer.Comment
