noob navigating CA gun laws

First of all, I'm new to the gun world. I just started shooting and my first gun came off its 10 day jail sentance last week.

I want to buy a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 40 cal. My understanding is it needs both a bullet button and a stock extension of 1/2 inch.

Can I order one of these out of state, ship it to my ffl, install this stuff (which should take 5 minutes) and then take delivery after 10 days?

Or, do I have to have the dealer I purchase from install these and then have them ship?

Also, does it matter if they ship a disassembled gun?

Lastly, I could avoid all this BS if I could find someone in CA who has these in stock. Any ideas?

I can answer one of your questions,

Yes, you can ship a dissasembled gun, however, the guns frame, (containing a serial number) has to be shipped to your FFL, the rest can go to your home directly.

i just got my sub 2000, marks armory shipped with a bb, however, the length requirement wasnt met, so my ffl turned the stock backwards on the gun. when i got home i turned it back around and ziptied a ati recoil pad to the stock, (lots of zipties) now its 30.5 inches and legal. so talk to your ffl.

o yeah and librarian i think unless the rifle has the kt butt pad on it it measures to 29.5 inches. everywhere i read except the kt website said 30 inches, but they are 29.5 that is why i added the buttpad to mine

The DDs Ranch site says "Firearm Has Been Fitted With A Magazine Lock And Stock Extension For Sales To California" - but that's the wrong model/variant.

I'm a Sig man, so no Glocks for me.

$429 seems steep too.

Reading some other older posts, someone mentioned that shipping a non-compliant weapon to an FFL with a manufacturer license would be ok.

Does this sound right?

Why?

Even if you get a Sig version and say you have Sig magazines that will hold more then 10 rounds it would be illegal for you to use those magazines in this rifle.

Thanks for the heads-up on hi-cap mags, but I have stacks of 10 round mags and want a carbine that takes the same mags as my pistol.

OK, I talked to a local FFL.

He says I have two choices. Either purchase the rifle with the mods on it already, or ship it to a class 7 FFL who can instal the mods before I take delivery.

Now the question is, does anyone know any good Class 7's in Central California?

I found a Class 7 FFL right down the street from me who will take delivery and make my Sub 2000 California legal.
