I actually saw someone do that once......Originally posted by ExiledvikingIf you don't look down the barrel that way, HOW do
tell if the gun is loaded?
A few years ago I was at a range with a friend who was shooting his 6-month qual for the exposed firearm permit. The rangemaster went through the usual "Barney-style" routine with everyone, you know, "Load" "Make Ready" etc etc.
When the rangemaster told everyone to conduct a chamber check to verify all weapons were loaded, one guy on the line brings his Beretta up to his face and peers down the barrel.
No $h!t........
Needless to say he was rapidly removed from the firing line and asked to leave the range, with the suggestion that he re-take the BSIS firearms class.Learning without thought is labor lost, thought without learning is perilous. -FoamyComment

And what happens when you're right the first time, and head over to the other side of it just to be safe?Originally posted by PanzerAceI just follow this advice with claymores: If you dont remember, the mine is pointed toward you.

sigh...
Ummm, claymores are simply a sandwich of (from back to front) a steel plate, 650g of C4, and 700 steel ball bearings. So it will explode exactly like a chunk of C4. The problem is that movies hardly ever show high explosives correctly, fireballs are more theatrical. Real C4 just makes a loud bang and maybe throws up a cloud of dust if there is dust around to be thrown.* Freedom is the human right to live your life however you damn well please, so long as you don't interfere with another's right to do the same.

Ummmmm..... I think ldivinag was being sarcastic. And BTW, there's no steel plate in a Claymore mine. You might want to recheck your sources that told you that.Learning without thought is labor lost, thought without learning is perilous. -FoamyComment

The claymore that I disassembled had a steel plate inside on the "safe" side... There has to be something there to make it a one way thing...Series 70 Gold Cup

There is no steel plate on the backside of a m18a1 Claymore. Trust me on this.Originally posted by EricthenorseThe claymore that I disassembled had a steel plate inside on the "safe" side... There has to be something there to make it a one way thing...
The entire body of the mine is plastic. The only metal content is the fusewells on the top, the legs on the bottom and the steel pellets that serve as fragmentation. That's it.
If there were ANY sort of solid object with any mass to it (ie- a steel plate) on the backside of the mine, which by the way is the friendly side of the mine, it would be projected back towards friendlies by the blast. Explosives don't have to be contained on one side to have an expelling effect.Learning without thought is labor lost, thought without learning is perilous. -FoamyComment

Likely it was only a Mylar weather seal. Claymores (like all explosions) detonate in a 360. The balls use up the forward 60 degrees of that.Originally posted by EricthenorseThe claymore that I disassembled had a steel plate inside on the "safe" side...
