    1911 choice..

So with my shotgun being unreliable, I'm thinking about of returning it for an refund and get on the 1911..

my problem is, I can't decided on which one, I have narrowed my choices down to A. Springfield 1911 Operator, B. Sig 1911 Railed or an Kimber..

my budget is around $1100 before tax and dros..

the main purpose of it will be range time.
out of the 3, which one would you recommend?

    thanks.

If it were me and I had $1100 to spend, either Sig without rails, or a SA Champion or TRP.

I was told operators are otd $1500 in ca... No? Also interested in one.

And to be honest for a personal defense gun look at glocks sigs or another gun. 1911's from what I've read and seen aren't the MOST reliable sidearms.

I'd have to agree with CK. My 1911 stays locked up and I have my XDm at my side while at home. Both are reliable, but my XDm has never had a failure.

Oh, to answer your question, I'd get the same 1911 I bought. Springfield MC Operator. Mine was $1,108 out the door.

First I don't think you can return a firearm unless it's from family. But back to your 1911 pistol, whatever you choose just be sure to shoot some rounds down range with the ammo you will load it with and be sure it's functional and have confidence that it'll be your life insurance if there will be a time.

Buy a Remington 870 and a RIA Tactical, with all the money left over stock up on ammo. Problem solved!

I'd go with the Springfield. I've had great luck with their guns AND their CS. As to reliability of 1911's for HD: there is no issue if you have a properly fitted/tuned gun. My HD pistol is a 1911 that I've got almost 9,000 trouble free rounds through since a hiccup within the second magazine I ever fired. I can forgive that one misfeed

I mainly shoot 1911's and haven't found them to be less reliable than any other gun out there. They're more sensitive to dirt/mud/sand than a Glock for example but unless you plan on doing some torture test against the elements and then putting it on your nightstand without cleaning then I wouldn't worry about it.

The one thing to remember is that 1911's are not cookie cutter guns...they're all different and as a gun that requires much more fitting and tuning than most others, you want to make sure it's functioning as it should with at least 500 rounds (I do more like 3,000 ) before trusting your life to it.

On the flip side, 250 rounds through a Glock without a hitch and I'm happy. Only thing is that I shoot much better with a 1911 and am much more comfortable and confident with it. I defend my family with the best

Well my experience with sig 1911 from my friend was total heavy piece of junk.
I'm using nighthawk grp for my bed pistol. And remington 870 for primary.
If you train well with1911.. It will be the best choice for you in my opinion

if I don't end up with the 1911, I would probably be picking up an glock 19 and use the rest of the money on ammo.. however though, I still have my sig.

look like I have some more research to do this weekend..

for the most time, I keep my guns cleaned and lubed.. and If I do purchase the 1911, it will receive the same care I do to all my guns. I doubt I be swimming with the 1911..

now where did you pick up ammo for your .45 mate? or do you reload?

I reload....it's the only way to go if you like to shoot regularly or shoot high volumes when you DO get out. I think most gun owners shoot less than 1,000 rounds a year but those of us that really like to get some trigger time are best served by reloading.

You won't SAVE money...you'll just shoot more on your budget. I pay about $285-360 per 1,000 of .45 when I buy factory brass cased ammo (need fresh brass every now and then) but only spend around $175 to reload 1000 rounds.

You can either get set up for reloading sooner and put up the cost....or later, and STILL put up the cost AFTER spending too much for factory ammo.

The only ammo I really keep around that isn't of my own making is some Hornady TAP. I only use factory defense ammo.

Consider a Dan Wesson PM7 for your budget.
