    Which .22lr 1911?

Hey guys, I need help deciding which .22lr to get. I want to stick with .22lr because it's so dang cheap to shoot! So, here's what I have in mind so far:

    GSG 1911 (~$350)
    Kimber 1911 .22lr (~$700)
    Kimber 1911 .45 + .22lr conversion
    Springfield 1911 .45 + .22lr conversion

I don't really plan to shoot .45, but would there be any benefits to converting a .45 into a .22lr? I know the gsg has 80% interchangeable parts (with some fitting), is that the same with the kimber? For what particular reason(s) is the kimber twice as much as the gsg?

If you never intend to shoot 45s at all, you should get the GSG.

I think the difference in cost is mainly the frame on the GSG being aluminum. I'm sure other parts in the two factor the cost as well despite interchangeability. I might be wrong though.

That's a waste of a 1911 IMO....... if you want cheap get a ruger or browning 22lr. Kinda dumb to spend $700 for a 22....

But hey your time your money.

I agree, overall it'd only be worth it if you are getting the gun and a conversion kit. Otherwise $700 can buy you a good target .22 handgun.

The GSG 1911 however, I think is a great tool and personally I'd rather get this than a conversion kit if I shot 1911s. I plan on getting one when they're more abundant and the hype-price dies down.

I followed this plan of action. IF i was going to a conversion, it would be the kimber, hands down.

Now if you could find a colt ace for cheap...

              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

If I was buying another conversion unit, it would be another Marvel designed one. The newest version which is sold by Nighthawk Custom looks good.

Where conversions shine is when you have several 1911's already, more than likely one won't go to the range that often anyway, so converting it to 22 gives you a full size, full weight, 1911. When I started out I had only one 1911, a Combat Commander, so when I wanted a .22 version of the 1911 I bought a Colt Service Model Ace, which I'm glad I still own 30 years later just for the collectability of it. The floating chamber was a neat gimmick but subject to fouling and it was ammunition sensitive.

I've not had a chance to shoot any of the new inexpensive .22lr 1911's that are out; you might want to check in on our rimfire section of the forum, I think there are some reviews posted there.

+1 for the Ruger, differ configurations especially you wont be shooting .45 brandnew will run you $500 and some places less. Target Master,Milpitas has a good amount.

Marvel 22 conversion units are super accurate. 1/2" at 50 yards with decent ammunition. Some well known high-masters shoot them for bullseye matches.

Thanks for the help guys. I been reading up on a lot of problems the GSG 1911 has been having out of the box. I'm having second thoughts about that one.

I just picked up my GSG 1911 on Thursday and took it to the range today. It shoots real nice. 200 rounds of CCI 36gr HP Mini Mags and 100 rounds of Fiocchi 40gr HVCRN went down range without a problem. The feel is like a regular 1911. Accuracy is okay, but this is not a target pistol. After shooting the GSG I moved on to my two .45 1911 pistols. My accuracy and trigger control seemed better than normal. I think working with the GSG is going to help me be a better shooter with my .45's.

I'd go with a conversion if you already have a 1911. You get to practice cheaply with the trigger system of your particular 1911.
