Advice needed on 1911

So I called around looking for an RIA tactical 45. One gunshop worker said to try for the higher priced 1911s from Kimber and Springfield just for better self defense and reliability. Something I should really consider or are the lower priced stuff just as reliable?

any 1911 can have reliability issues. that is why it's recommended to run hundreds of rounds before trusting it. even though i have a springfield mil spec right now, i'd get a rock island over a kimber any day. kimbers are nice to look at, but i've heard of more people unhappy with kimbers than rocks.

I say go for the SA mil spec in SS or the loaded if you can find it for under a grand.

another vote for a SA milspec (not GI) can't go wrong with a milspec
