    Advice needed on 1911

So i was thinking of saving up for a 1911 stainless steel that shoots 45s. Trying to find one new below a grand, if there is such a thing. As long as it's decent quality and reliable I'll be happy. I hear recoil is less with steel. Is is there a significant difference with recoil between full size and sub compact? I'm still new to all this but would like some pointers.

Are you set on stainless steel, or would you consider blued or parkerized steel?

If this is your first 1911, I highly recommend the Rock Island Tactical 45. It is a parkerized full size 45 ACP 1911, all steel, and has most of the features that anyone would need. Cost is in the $500 range + tax + DROS. It is a lot of gun for the money.

If you are set on stainless, then a used Springfield or Kimber should cost you in the $700 range approx. Used Colts run higher.

The recoil with the Compact (aka Officer) size 1911 is noticably stronger than with a Govt (full) size. I would not recomend a Compact 1911 as your first one.

Also note, regardless of the 1911 you purchase, good quality magazines will make the shooting experience much more pleasant. I use MecGar and Colt factory mags with good results.

Hey, thanks for the advice. Yeah, even though I said stainless steel, I'm really good with any type of steel. Someone mentioned Rock Island to me but I wasn't sure what model. I'll look into the one you mentioned.

          Get a full sized 1911.

Forget SS. Go carbon steel. Much easier to mod should you want to.

I say go for the SA mil spec in SS or the loaded if you can find it for under a grand.

                Stick with fullsize.

.45 in a fullsize 1911 in very, very , very manageable. The smaller you go, the more flip you will get.

You want stainless, get the stainless
Under 1k budget...you will have some great choices, as stated above.

Don't forget about Ruger's new stainless(need to single shot in): msrp:$799.

Is this a fun range only gun...if so, consider one with already installed target sights.

Oh, here is RIA's - tactical model site:

Colt XSE SS $999. That is what I paid. Own the original and it gets the 100years of service roll mark if you get one soon. Can't beat that for value and that is something that the other guns cannot claim.

By the way it shoots smooth, reliably, and EXTREMELY ACCURATELY - Plus it is a COLT. (I have been shooting my friend's as mine is in Jail still) Best purchase of the year for me. Beats my M&P 45 and FNP-9 easily.

If you want a SS one you should look @ the 100% USA made Ruger SR1911.

                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Is this Ruger on CA DOJ list yet?
