    Ruger Alaskan

School me please, looking to buy a 44 mag or 454 casull.

I like the 44 mag more due to the fluted cylinder but would prefer 454 casull ballistics.

    I rented a 44 mag at targetmasters.

I had to shoot their ammo, Seller and Bellot 240 gr.

The recoil wasnt bad at all, even my girl shot it and liked it.

IS this an accurate representation of the 44 mag or can I load to much hotter ammo?

The gun didnt seem too accurate, although we got it after another group had rented it, and it was my first time with a 44 mag.

    Thanks in advance....

    P.S. Small Rant.

I was sold on the gun after shooting it, went to buy it, got half way through the paper work and the lady said that my ID and DMV registration didn't match.

My Drivers license has my full name and JR at the end of it, my DMV registration has NO JR at the end.
SO she turned me away, I told her I have purchased fireamrs this very way in the past. In fact from that very gun store.

She said they where audited and it was a new policy?

The 454 has a much stiffer kick than the 44 but you can load that 44 a lot hotter than SB ammo. Also, you can lay hands on a new 44 for under $700 but a newer 454 just went for over $1600 on GB. That's not to say they can't be had cheaper, but that one seems to be the hot ticket right now. Although someone offered me $1500 for my .480 this weekend and he had cash in his hand. Oh lordy, I almost took it.

? I'd sell my .454 for $1500 in a heartbeat and just buy another. All the Ruger Alaskans .454 on GB I see are selling for $750-1100. Am I missing something? Was it plated in gold?

                I just saw a pair of Alaskan's, 454 & 44 at Turner's. The 44 was priced slighly higher.

Oh god, let me guess he never had to reload it and it had zero recoil?

I have the 44mag Alaskan it's a blast. I have found it very accurate. The grips soak up a lot of the recoil. It is a heavy beast and that also helps with recoil.

I say go with the 44 mag....Someday you're going sell it & when you do, the 44 will be easier to sell.

Why would the .44 be easier to sell? Wouldn't the 454/45LC be a better round, with much more versatility? I guess I don't understand buying that platform and then watering it down with a 44mag. At least that was my train of thought when I bought my ruger redhawk alaskan.

BTW...I am selling a 454/45LC version with 33 rounds fired. It is in the firearms section. If you have any questions, let me know. Located in Nor Cal.

Rugers could handle much hotter loads than other brands
