That sucks to hear because I use to get all my ammo from Walmart because it was cheaper.

depending on the ammo prices to be stable is like going back with your ex; won't work.

I don't understand why you would want to buy ammo at Walmart. Why?

Either support your local gun shop, or buy online. Those are much better solutions than Walmart.

Stock up on ammo - When you see a killer deal get a ton of ammo...If you don't you will have posts like this. I rarely seem to care about ammo price unless I am out of it.

When I am low on my ammo that is purchased online, I stop at Walmart to supplement the stash so I don't go bone dry.

I like to support the local gun shop when it makes sense (purchasing guns locally rather than online). Buying target ammo and paying a premium for it doesn't make sense to me. At the old price of $10.47 for 9mm FMJ at Walmart, it ends up coming out to a little more than $11 per 50 rounds. My online purchases end up from $10 to $11 per 50 rounds after you factor in shipping. At local stores, I'm looking at $14 and above for 9mm FMJ not including sales tax.

Same here because well, that's the only time it matters...when you're forking over the digits to the plastic card to pay for a few thousand rounds.

haven't checked pricing lately. it's actually pretty nice for change that they actually have stock of ammo now- as opposed to having nothing for 2 weeks straight. mixed bag.

Federal 22LR 550 rnd boxes are still 18.97 but they have a new Remington box at 550 rnds (I dont' care for them) and they are 19.97 I think. The only thing I was buying there was the Federal 45 at 16.97 now 18.97 I might as well mail order out of state and avoid the sales tax - while I can.

The local gun shop is very proud of their ammo judging by their prices. I'd hate to take it from them; they can keep it.

On a good day Walmart can compete with online ammo in quantities less than 500. This makes a spontaneous trip to the range more feasible.

Sales tax applies whether a purchase is made in or out of CA so that's not a factor. Fee shipping is what makes the difference but one has to shop around for those deals and the quantities are high. Walmart is good for just dropping in and pickup something up right then and there. Worth a few $ more even for the convenience.

I haven't been able to find an online shop where the ammo price + shipping is less than walmart ammo + tax.

You have to get lucky with specials etc. and sometimes the quantities get to high, so the initial outlay is more than might be comfortable. It does happen but not routinely in my experience. Maybe someone will post a more permanent option online?
