The 459/659 is a great platform.

In no way compromising that statement, the 3rd Gen (5906, 6906, etc.) are even better/tighter. I have a 915 and a 5906 I love [along with two 4506s and 1006].

These are "built" guns that will last forever. S&W has a good record of service & support for these too - not that you'll need it.

You never hear of problems w/these guns. The only complaints are from younger Glock etc fanboys that have never shot them.

I'd have no problems staking my life on a 659 or 5906 etc.

That's reassuring as i noted earlier I have my first 659 and now also a 5906 (plus assorted others) but have recently been thinking I just "need" a XD/M&P in 9mm just incase, maybe revisit that

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

The Smith & Wesson autos of the 2nd and 3rd. generations are the most underated pistols out there. Not to sound like an echo but with factory ammo I have never had a failure with the 4506, 1006 or 3914. All excellent, very accurate pistols. Most of the time these can be had in the $350-$450 range in near perfect condition.

As a fighting pistol the saftey position and DA/SA system is a deal breaker for me. For many including law enforcement they have and still work very well.

Great pistol. Grab it! If anyone out there knows where there is a 639 please let me know. I sold mine, years ago and regretted it ever since!

That's a great pistol. A little heavy and old-tech but a fine fighting handgun by any standard.
