    First handgun purchase question

    Hey guys,
So I just moved back from Europe, I had been gone for 5 years.
I now want to purchase my first handgun after some range time, I think I'm going to go with a Glock 23.
However, I need proof of CA residency.
I've only been back for 2 months and am still crashing at my parents. So, I got no bills and no car in my name.
I do, however, have a few official documents and forms from Homeland Security with my name & address because I'm currently going through Green Card renewal so I have receipts and appointments for fingerprinting and stuff dated no more than 45 days ago.

Anyway, my question is: at what part of the process does the firearm dealer need proof of residency? and do you think those forms are enough for proof of residency or should I just settle on a long gun to fulfill my shooting desires for now?

The reason I ask is because I don't want to pay for my background check only to find out those forms aren't enough at the very end of the 10 day period. I'll probably just go talk to the people @ my local gun store, but any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks guys

Write up a rental agreement with your parents. You can find generic forms at Office Depot, etc.

Yeah, but it says it's supposed to be notarized on the DOJ website.
Damn, at 24, this makes me feel like a 12 year old trying to get his Mommy to sign an absence excuse for school... lol
Oh well, if this becomes too much of a pain, I'll just buy a 10-22 and 500 rounds for half the price of the Glock

I have a feeling I'm going to get turned down tomorrow.

Unless... do bank statements count as proof of residency?

            From TenPercentFirearm's thread:
utility bills, current bank statements, rent receipts, mortgage payments, lease agreements, personal property tax bills, documents issued by Federal, State, or local government agencies, first-class mail issued by government agency, insurance policies, or bill with current address or major credit card bill

Thanks a lot, I bookmarked that link!

I naively thought that purchasing a firearm was a painless process (at least compared to France), guess I was wrong! There's a lot of homework to be done once you've picked out the gun you like

If your parents pay any utility bills online, they can log and and 'EDIT' the name by adding your name to the header. Then print out what you need.

I went the lease agreement route and purchased my first handgun.
My gun shop was doing 10% on the Ruger SR9, so $530 out the door (DROS and tax included).
Can't wait to get it 10 days from now!
