in that case, I'd say you have a gov't model that was incorrectly rollmarked "Commander", there's a few of them out there...if you told me the first 3 characters started with LW3, we'd be going in a different direction lol

Colt's been known to be quite frugal. It appears the slide was mis-marked and they still used it. Unfortunately in the gun world these kind of errors don't add the kind of value that they would in the coin collecting world.
More than likely a Colt letter won't even acknowledge this mistake as they probably didn't keep records of something like that. But it still might be interesting to know when it was shipped and to what retailer.Last edited by redcliff; 07-14-2011, 7:38 AM."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"Comment

the first 3 digits if the SN said all that was needed to determine if if was a commander frame that had an incorrectly marked gov't slide, or a gov't model with incorrect roll marks on the slide

The photos help quite a bit, written description leaves some imagination to run wild especially on older guns.
Your pistol is indeed unique, and probably worthy of a letter from Colt.
If you are looking to sell it at some point the letter will be of some value, even though it may not say anything about the mismarked slide.
It is hard to say what kind of price you could get, pre 70 commercial Government Models with original box are not cheap anymore.Comment
