I'm in Billings Montana over the weekend working so I went around to a bunch of gun stores; including Cabela's. And none of them had any Colt 1911's in stock. I asked at Cabela's and the guy I talked with said he hadn't seen any Colts in like a month. I guess even out here in free America they are hard to get right now.

I've seen XSE models in local shops. Mostly stainless. Tracy had one last time I visited.Comment

The higher end of the anniversary models were sold out before they were delivered, they only made 1000 of them. The base model with the anniversary slide went into full production, but even then there won't be enough of them made to meet the demand.
Colt may favor some distributors over others, but I know my local Bass Pro Shop here in DFW has not seen a single Colt 1911 in over 6 months. Free America has nothing to do with it, Colt's production is just too slow for the demand.Comment

This is your answer right here. More demand than supply. From what I understand they also manufacture them in batches. A few months they do stainless, the next few they do blued, etc. that's why they seem to come and go so quickly.-Nick-Comment
