I just wanted to get this straight. As a non-Californian, if I bring stripped pistol frames with me when I move back to PRK, the main advantage is getting past the roster and not having to drop all the $$ for the off-roster pistol as the frame is much cheaper than the completed weapon? However, a stripped frame does not include a serial number (as far as I know) to register it when said frame enters PRK for its new home. Sooo how does this workout?

A striped frame is a "Title 1" firearm and as such doesn't need to be registered with CA when you move into the state. Only handguns need to be registered.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

All 1911-framed guns have the serial number on the frame, but Ruger MkI,II,IIIs have theirs on the receiver (bbl screws or is pressed into it). I'm not sure about an 80%er needing one, I suppose it doesn't because it's is "self" built, but all the finished frames...Caspian, STI, Wilson, Colt etc will have serial numbers on the frame.
If you are moving back into the state, buy a lifetime supply + of frames for personal use! I have one unbuilt frame and I wish I had about 5 more. Oh well, California.

It has been a long time since I've had a chance to see my weapons. For some reason I was thinking the serial was added at a later point in the build. Thanks for the info.sigpic

You should buy as many stripped Wilson, Kimber, Caspian frames/race-frames as possible before moving to Cali. You can PPT those profitably extremely easily.
