    Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec 5"

How would you rate this as far as 1911's go? I want a full sized 1911 but don't want to spend $1000+

Also, has anyone bought one lately? If so how much did you pay?

I think you will have a hard time finding one, but it is a good starter 1911. I went with a RIA Tactical, got it for a great price, but it's finish is not as nice as you would get with a SA.

I've had one for several years now. It is a great 1911.

Last one I got was $430 used in great shape with low round count. Even full price I still believe it to be a very solid value.

Bought mine in 2008 for $600 in SS from Buds. I'll let the photos tell you the rest.

              Ryan,

Who did the custom work for you...the SAI Custom Shop?

I have a Parkerized Mil-Spec that I've been very happy with. It has a much tighter slide-to-frame fit than the two Colts I've owned. I think they are a good bang for the buck.

I bought a stainless steel one earlier this years for $780. It's a great starter and like Ryan did you can eventually upgrade parts. I'm looking into getting new sights, the three dots are very small, and then to put a beavertail grip safety on it.

No complaints about the gun really. The finish oh the grip safety rubbed my hand weird so I polished it up and no more problem. Really like the gun. Just wish it wasn't so expensive to shoot.

I got a used one with less than 100 rounds and it is amazing. Accurate, reliable, and beautiful. However, it has a full length rail so its a bit more of a collectors item as they aren't made anymore. Its my hd set up as I have a tlr-1 on it and with cmc mags its been completely reliable. I think the milspec is an awesome pistol for the money if u don't mind not having the beavertail, fcs, and ambisafety.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but thanks. Bought it for the specific purpose of sending it to Rogers Precision to build a personalized custom (to me) pistol.

Bought mine in 1993 for $285 99+ Ca. tax. SA mil-spec,5" barrel. This is an utterly reliable and accurate pistol. I have total faith in that firearm.

I had Pachmayr grips, and a match barrel and bushing in mine, it became my favorite handgun, till it was stolen about 6 years ago.
