    Considering a plastic gun...

Hey guys. I've been looking at getting another 9mm. I've narrowed it down to either a glock 19 or a sigpro 2022. I'm a sig guy (226 and 220) and like the way the 2022 feels, but I'm just a little leary of the reliability. the glock is the same price, has the glock reputation, and that horrible grip angle and striker fire that I don't like. This is going to be my go to pistol, and will probably end up being my CCW (when I get it) gun. This is not a "which brand is better" thread. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the sigpro and can tell me if it is tough enough to be my only plastic pistol. If not, I'll get the glock. Thanks...Tim

A good place to ask this question would be SigForum. From what I've read, they are just as reliable as the classics and there are divisions in the Army that are issued the Sig Pro. If you dislike the Glock trigger, grip angle, and striker fire mechanism and already enjoy Sigs why not go with what you like?

The G19 is more concealable than the 2022 though and is definitely a great gun.

I've been considering picking up a pro also but then again also want a G19.

I will ask on Sigforum, but those guys may be slightly biased. Not totally, just slightly.

Get the glock. I love sigs, but if its not a P series then its not a sig. The glock 19 is gastons bread and butter. Assuming it fits your hand, I can't imagine you would be disappointed in it.

            Many other polymer possibilities

You haven't mentioned any other 9mm polymer guns besides the Glock and the Sig. Have you looked at all the other available options? There are quite a few of them, including guns from Beretta, Walther, Kahr, H&K, S&W, Steyr, etc. For example, the Belgian company FNP makes a good gun that is approved in CA called the FNP-9, for about the same price as the Glock or Sig Pro:

If you don't like the grip angle of the Glock, you can have the rear of the frame shaved and reshaped.

IMO, I like the feel of the G19, so when I felt the reshaped one, I didn't like it at all- which means you might LOVE it!

There's pretty much nothing on the market with the same size, weight, and overall firepower of a Glock 19/23. Almost everything else is either lower capacity or larger in size.

I'm a hard core sig guy myself. However, I've owned a glock 23, the .40 ver of the G19.

They are great pistols on many fronts.
They're utterly reliable in my experience, easily cleaned, and pretty much indestructible. Accuracy in .40 was pretty good, might be even better in 9mm because of the controllability. They are indeed easier to conceal than the sigs I'm familiar with (228, 229, 226) because they're slimmer and much lighter. Can't speak for the sigpros.

I'd go with the glock just because if anything goes wrong with the gun (which it wont) you can buy parts anywhere on the net. with other choices you will most likely have to send it back to the manufacturer and that means down time....I wouldn't want that with a ccw gun

You can buy sig parts online also. I have a Sigpro and love. I have over 3000 rounds down if and have never had a malfunction. Great gun.

Sigs are very nice guns. However, my carry gun has always been a G23 or G19. When the poop hits the fan, the Glock's reliability is without equal.

The Glock Tupperware is a very reliable pistol. Easy to fire, with the same trigger pull from the fist shot to the end of the magazine. (not like the double action/single action sig). My only complaint is the unsupported chamber that Glock uses. I have seen more than one 40 cal Glock go boom when using reloads. By swapping the barrel to an after market barrel (supported chamber), this (I have been told) does away with the problem. In addition, with the after market barrel you can use lead bullets. BTW, the glocks that have gone boom have been on public ranges, and not on a police range. You can read more about this by doing a google search for "glock boom"

Currently, I am attending a police academy. There are 12 Glock shooters and two Sig shooters. I'm one of the sig shooters. If the agency that I plan to go to work for, didn't carry sigs, I would probably go ahead and get a glock.

                        But that's my 1 1/2 cents/

sigs are beautifull and wonderfull and I want to own a 226R in a bad way.

glocks are beautifull in an ugly functional ruggad sort of way.

Both are reliable and well constructed.

If you have to use your CCW piece in a self defense situation, there is a good chance you'll loose the gun (for a while, possibly forever)

I would rather hand over a glock than a sig.

You'd be surprised. There are a lot of Glock advocaters on there too. Quite a few of them also carry Glocks.

Nevertheless... between the two, I'd also pick the Glock 19. It'd be more concealable than the SIG. Furthermore, the aftermarket support for the Glock pistol is enormous.

Regarding the grip angle, I used to think the same way. It's a non-issue now.

When I first put my grip on a G19, and shot a few rounds, I had to have one. It fits perfectly in my hand, points and shoots very naturally for me, soft recoil, very accurate. Thinking about getting another one in case bill AB 1471 passes.
