Kimber gets my vote...owned a stock Colt Gold Cup and Gov. both in 70 series and both were awesome shooters, but the Kimber may be a bit more refined to shoot more rounds down range. Save your money for rounds or get into reloading to best enjoy shooting the 45. Good Luck.

Springfield Loaded Parkerized (PX9109LP). Comes with Trijicon-Novak night sights, Lifetime warranty, its a Series 70 (no FPS), and can be found for $800-$850 at local gun stores. I love mine:

I would say get a colt or get a ria and a press to reload because 45's get expensive quick.

I was at my local shop picking up something and saw the Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Stainless version and suddenly, I felt like I must have it. So that's where I'm headed for now...a SA 1911 Loaded (Stainless).

If you can find a used SigArms GSR get it.

I would get a Sigsauer 1911 if not.

+1 ... these are magnificent and beneficial animals that mostly eat rats, gophers, and other pests. I have only shot one once, and I regret having done so.

About a year ago, I set a budget of $800 for a 1911. I ended up purchasing a RIA Tac model, extra mags, new grips, and ammo. My 1911 now has over 1800 rounds through it, and I have been very pleased with its performance. You also can't go wrong with a Springfield Armory Loaded, but you may end up using most of your budget. Although I have not shot an S&W 1911, I keep hearing really positive reviews about them.

                                1st: RIA Tac
                                2nd: SA Loaded
                                3rd: S&W 1911

Good luck with your search and decision!
