On the market for a new gun as allways. I spotted a Desert Eagle .44 in Canyon Sports for $1500. I declined the sales man invite to fondle it knowing I might want to buy it, but I can't stop thinking about it. I am not looking for a home defense gun, just something that will put a smile on my face when I shoot it. It is a novelty gun no doubt but how does the gun rate on the fun factor? Thanks, Sammy

i think that might be going a bit overboard for the HD gun right? why not a shotty?
plus depending on your skill level, it might be "easier" with a smaller rd?
oh the good side you can change the barrel and shot 50 out of it... -
I'm in the market for a DE as well, and all the one's I've seen are in the $1200 range, that price $1500 seems high. Prince 50 has a friend with a 50 AE for 1200 if you are in San Diego. I would have picked it up but I don't have the funds at this time.
If you are not outraged you are not paying attention!!!

I've seen them in stock at a couple places for just less than 1200 avoiding the shipping and dealer fees. Tax on 1200 off the top of my head is 99-100 dollars, tax on 1500 is about 125. If you can't find one in stock it will be about 1500 after transfer fees and shipping.

do the math of the sales tax vs. shipping + dealer fees...If you are not outraged you are not paying attention!!!

The DE44 is definitely a fun gun, and as you mentioned, will put a smile on your face
. I got mine for a bit more than $1200 two yrs ago. I sent it back to Magnum Research and they refinished it in brushed chrome for $275. It took them 3 months to get it back to me but the finish is top-notch. Follow the list on their website for recommended ammo. I've been through all sorts of different brands of ammo for this thing but my personal favorite is the 240gr +P+ JHP from Miwall. It's got more punch than your average 44mag round and shoots quite a flame out the barrel. But most importantly, it reliably cycles the bolt and haven't had any F2F or F2E since switching.
I hope this info helps you with your decision. Have fun!

They're definitely fun to shoot, but I would take a wheelgun over the DE in any situation where it was necessary to have some holster time. The DE is just too bulky for me to want to carry, but it's definitely a kick in the shorts to shoot. It's a lot better shooter than it appears to be.....Comment

Some of the cheaper used DEs might be the older model which can't take the 50AE conversion barrel.
I bought a new 44 and added the 50 barrel and magazines. It is a lot of fun to shoot. In 44 it is really gentle and mild to shoot. It took a couple of tries to find a bullet that would feed, but then no problems.
The 50 is definitely an experience. The recoil isn't so much, but the blast is quite a surprise.Comment

I own one and if you are looking for a gun that is damned FUN to shoot, look no further!!!
The DE is tons of fun. Just keep it clean, hold it very firmly and use fully-jacketed factory loads and you will love it.
$1500 is way high for a .44 - you should pay closer to $1200 if it is NIB, less for used.
Make sure it is the Mk XIX so that you can upgrade to a .50 barrel if you want.Comment
