Every time I took my wife to the indoor range for a safety reminder I would point to the left and the right and point out the bullet holes in the poly "wings" between each lane. I would then point out all the holes in the roof.

Public ranges... SUCK. Also, are very dangerous.

I find outdoor rangers a lot safer and way more comfortable than indoor

When I was done shooting and was looking at some eye-candy (SA Loaded 9mm in SS) and talking to the guys, I found out the guys girlfriend said that dude was trying to clear a jam and may have shot himself in the hand.

Finger on the trigger, other hand covering the muzzle trying to rack the slide.

It's better he shot himself then someone else.


The only accident at a range that I witnessed was in San Leandro at the Davis street range. A guy was shooting a Dan Wesson 44 mag with handloads. The gun exploded and pieces of the cylinder hit the guy next to him in the head. Blood everywhere. He wasn't hurt bad, he was just a profuse bleeder.

Why I hate going on the weekend to public ranges. It's like those are the "amateur hours". I've seen so much stupid on Saturday and Sunday at ranges it's like a "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" book.

Y'know, I was looking at all the ceiling shots last night before this even happened trying to figure out how that many people could be that dangerous ('cuz there was LOTS of them) it's pretty freakin' scary.

Some guy showed up in the lane next to me and was spraying shots all over his "targets" ?? @ 5 yards. He was wearing a T-shirt that I thought had some sort of LE type insignia on it, I hope to God I'm wrong about that.

I don't care much for public ranges, especially indoors, but I wanted to sight in the new scope on my Marlin 795.

Kind of off topic, but how in the world can you be accurate when the target bounces all around like that? At my local indoor range the targets don't move pratically at all.

I don't mind shooting at a indoor range, just hate it when it gets too crowded.

That sucks...my cousin shot himself in the hand over two years ago, with a S&W 357 revolver(HP bullets) right through the palm. He still doesn't have complete feeling in that hand but he's lucky to have a hand to use. Have to be more careful when handling a firearm, there are not toys.

I had my ar jam on me once and no matter what I did it wouldn't clear. Fearing I might shoot myself I went to grab the ro. When he got there I shoeednhim the jam and how when I racked it the round failed to eject... Exceprbthis time it did.

Another reason why I go to outdoor ranges. If I ever do go to indoor ranges I try to go during the slow hours and be at least a few lanes away from the main crowd. And another reason why I pack a med kit in my range bag.
