I got my 226 for $400, it's no safe queen. Holster wear, old night sights, and I shoot it all day long and it never gives me trouble. Look around if you like sig, you will be able to find one.sigpic
George Washington didn't use the 1st amendment to defeat the British...he shot them.

+1 on the Ruger P89. I too have put many many rounds down range with no ftf or fte. The are a solid, well made handgun. And they are reasonably priced.

P89s as above folks suggested are great choices.
They're cheap and indestructible and most folks are happy with them.
The P90 is a sleeper and is one of the more accurate outta-the-box 45ACPs out there incl 1911s that cost $500-$750 more.

CZ 75, SIG 228 CPO, HiPower(used), or 92FS(used) would all be fun plinkers.Chris

Without a doubt get a CZ75B. Do not get the decocker or the compact - why? Because for another couple hundred you can put a very reliable and accurate .22 conversion on top of it.
I cannot tell you how much fun my 75 is now - you'll need about 500 rounds to smooth the trigger out, but it is incredibly well balanced, very accurate, dead nuts reliable and has great ergonomics. Plus it is amazingly affordable.
I had a Ruger P89 and really didn't like it - nasty Ruger trigger and it was a fat gun. It was reliable, but I would say both my Hi Power and my CZ are considerably more accurate.

Of all us "Computer Commandos" I'll agree with icormba, having owned alot of 9mm's all these are fine guns but I tend to lean towards the CZ (you'll be amazed how it fits your hand) or the Beretta. But non of the guns above you'll be disappointed.Comment

Just looking at Bud's Gun shop....the new CZ75B and a used local PPT Beretta 92FS is about the same after DROS and/or tax.
It looks like the CZ75B has a bigger following (I like all steel frame). What is the difference between 75B and 75BD?? I assume 75B is the standard DA/SA?? Is it better than the 92FS (putting ergonomics aside)?? If anyone know of a p226 in 9mm for around $400, please let me know.
Thanks.Last edited by neomedic; 09-15-2007, 12:55 AM.Comment

I shot both the CZ and the 92 for a while. The CZ points more naturally for me. The Beretta is nice and very accurate(I would venture to say I am more accurate with a beretta than one of my 1911s) but I can put the shots more instinctively with a CZ75. The CZ I shot also had a smoother action than the particular 92 I used later on. Also, the CZ was virtually recoilless for me, while the Beretta let me know I was shooting a 9mm.
Plus the CZ has a frame-mounted safety. not so with the 92, the Ruger, etc. I started out on 1911s and the CZ feels great in my hand.
You can probably tell that I'm more biased toward 1911ish guns, YMMV.Last edited by CalNRA; 09-15-2007, 4:08 AM.Originally posted by cvigueThis is not rocket surgery.Comment

75B has a manual safety, the 75BD is the decocker model. If you're looking at the 75B then take a price check on the newer 75 SP-01 as well; it's basically the same as a 75B except has a better slide stop, nicer trigger and recoil springs and the weight up front on the dust cover. Once I got my SP-01 I can't imagine why I'll ever pull my 75BD out of the box anymore, the SP-01 is so much nicer. It's evolution of the same frame/design - same mags fit too.It looks like the CZ75B has a bigger following (I like all steel frame). What is the difference between 75B and 75BD??
