I agree with the previous posters who said shoot both weapons to decide what feels best for you. Personally, I am biased towards the Glock. You can buy a lot off ammo and accessories for $300: 3.5 lb. trigger, Talon grips, night sights, etc.

GLOCK 21 SF vs. SIG P220

Thanks everyone for all the helpful info-- yep. I plan to get out and get some trigger time with a G21 SF before purchasing. There is certainly a comfort/familiarity factor with the SIG for me and I do like having the DA/SA option. 1911s are beautiful and I respect them (especially Kimbers), but I think you need to be passionate about owning one-- as Larry Vickers said: "1911 owners are like Harley owners-- you gotta like tinkering with them yourself to keep 'em running."
Complete BS. But keep thinking that if you would like. Own a 1911 and you will strongly disagree with Mr. Vickers in no time.
To ?: Get the p220. You already have a 226 and you will be very comfortable with the platform.
No good in mixing it up with a gun that has horrid ergos. Reliability is awesome but the p220 is reliable as well.Comment

I love my Sig P220. It is heavier but I like that feel. The only thing about the Sig is you have to keep them well oiled and greased. Other then that it is a work horse. I trust my Sig with my life.
Of all the guns I own, this is the one I carry.
I love all my guns but they each have their primary function.Signature requiredComment

If you like the G21SF, do yourself a HUGE favor and wait until you can get a Single Shot Converted GEN 4 G21. I have both the G21SF and the GEN 4 G21, and I'm strongly considering buying another GEN 4. Here's a link to my range report.
You can't lose either way, the 220 is another amazing handgun. I'm a Glock guy though, converted from HK's a few years back...Comment

I have a G21SF and a Colt 80 Series 1911. I like shooting the 1911, but it's needed regular maintenance to be reliable for me and my wife (for some reason it stovepipes for my wife). The Glock is my uber reliable pickup truck for half the price.
But spend some of the money you saved on the Glock for the aftermarket barrel to shoot lead and to fully support the chamber."Ecuador offers the United States $23 million a year in economic aid, an amount similar to what we were receiving under the tariff benefits, with the purpose of providing human rights training that will contribute to avoid violations of people's privacy, that degrade humanity," --Fernando AlvaradoComment

Get the G21 (Gen 4 if you can).
Go ahead and speak for everyone ...
or not.

I can only speak for the G21SF. It is the most accurate handgun I have ever shot. One time I let a range officer (who never shot a Glock 21) fire off a few rounds with my G21SF. At 15yds the first shot he made hit the bullseye. Then the second. I asked him if he was a marksman and he said "Honesetly no, I usually shoot long guns and occasionally handguns but I'm no marksman". Basically he adapted well to my G21SF and quickly got on target. The G21SF is such an amazing pistol. It is my go to gun for a SHTF situation.Comment

I love the ergonomics better on the Glock 21. For example, on the Glock the slide lock is low profile and does not rub up against your thumb when you are shooting. In comparison the Sig if you do thumbs forward you'll un intentionally possible lock the slide back etc. With the Sig I have to cross my thumbs. Another, I feel the Glock is more of a rugged pistol. The frame to slide fit has less contact= less wear. In addition I dislike the double action to single action crap. I like consistency and believe the Glock is a single action trigger just let the trigger reset just enough and bang again and again.Comment

G21 over the P220
I dont really like Sigs all that much I guess Im too use to glocks low bore. The P220 just felt like there was way too much real estate above my hand much like the HK USP I sold.
That being said I sold all 3 of my G21sf after shooting the G30sf. IMO its just as accurate and can hold the same amount of ammo in a smaller more comfortable package.Comment

Shoot both a lot and see which works best for you. You should be able to rent them at your local range. I think Sig is great in 9mm. In fact, in all honesty, I think the P226 or 228 in 9mm is about all anyone needs in a combat pistol; but, if I were choosing between the 21sf or the 220, I would choose the Glock. Personally, I think it's a better pistol and yes, I've shot them both. IMHO, the Glock is the softest shooting .45 I've ever shot. If given the choice I would probably choose the HK over either of them and the M&P gives the Glock a run for second, but those don't seem to be on your list.Comment

I'm probably in the minority on this, but: I have shot both, and I think the more aggressive grip angle on the Glock allows for better recoil absorption than the heavier Sig. I'm also a fan of double-action only, so you can guess which piece I keep. That being said, I have owned a Sig and was nothing short of impressed with it's quality. So um... moon labia or something.Comment

I gotta ask why you think this is true? Maybe I misunderstand what you mean by "combat trigger" seeing how I've never been in combat I don't really understand the difference between a combat trigger and a normal everyday, shoot everything in sight trigger. IMHO a stock Glock's trigger is nothing special. I'm not going to turn this into a 1911 vs Glock argument because that's not the point of this thread but as far as stock triggers, 1911's BY FAR have a better stock trigger than a Glock no question about it. Sure you can get some trigger work done and turn it into a very nice crisp pull, and I'm not trying to hate on Glocks. They are great guns, reliable, able to take a beating, etc. and I would feel comfortable using one when my life counts on it. I just don't see how anyone can say they are the best (combat?) trigger.
Edit: After thinking about it for a while, I'm considering the fact that maybe by combat trigger you were including recoil, muzzle rise, and re-engagement of the target, and not just the trigger pull?Last edited by chaseface; 06-25-2011, 9:32 PM.Comment

I own Glocks, Sigs, and 1911s. They are all good. I have shot almost all models of Glock but the only one I shot poorly was a G21. Like many have suggested, you will have to try them both to decide but for me, having two P220s and had a P245, I just love the grip angle of the Sigs and the single stack feel. A Sig P220 in my hand just feels "right" as does a 1911. Both are very close in grip angle and are single stack.
I like playing with my Glocks but LOVE my P220s. I bought Glocks for the addition to my collection and I get good prices on them. I sort of felt like I needed them represented. I bought 9mm for cheaper range shooting. I mess around with them but when I want to get serious, I'll bust out a P220 or a 1911. That's just me so I'm sure other will disagree and think it should be the other way around.Comment
