Congratulations, my first glock was a 34 also. Even though I have many more (17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 35) the 34 is my favorite. They're like Pringles potatoe chips...you can't have just one.

Shoot a ton first....learn to use it stock....after you reach a certain level of consistency with it, upgrade it to get better / faster.

Take the money you would use to upgrade and spend it on ammo and competitions. That way you'll be totally comfortable with it during all sorts of situations.

got the G17 about 2 months ago....did a $.25 trigger job after shooting 250 rounds about..... 100 rounds...loved the differance!!!(its free, why not do it?).....shot 1st IDPA match last weekend and had 0 problems and watched at least 5 others have jams and other issues(could have just been from bad reloads but noticed none of them were Glocks. )

I'll get better THEN upgrade to 3lbs trigger and mag well to be even faster. if you upgrade first and train with them, holding a standard you'll seem like a slug...

Congratulations on your purchase...just 1 suggestion to consider ...
1. The 10 rd. mags. that came with mine will not allow me to fully load it to full capacity and be able to insert it in the gun without the mags falling out- my mags are loaded to 9 rds.- I will try to load 10rds. as it is broken in more.
2. Take advantage of the excellent trigger pull and quick reset of your new G34.

First thing I do to any Glock is replace the trigger with a 3.5 lb pull... and maybe perform the '25 cent trigger job'.
