this is the best idea...shoot as many as possible.
One thing to consider is can or would you want to shoot lead in the glock? Consider adding one more to your choices, a 1911. There are so many variations of the 1911, it would really open your choices up to somthing that fits you.
I used to think I would never drink the 1911 koolaid but I did, and dont regret it. Now my other pistols spend alot more time on the shelf.

Yes, this. Try them both and see which one works best for you.

I've shot and like both for different reasons. It would be hard to conceal either, but I think I would have an easier time concealing the Smith, if that's a concern. The Glock works well, is accurate enough, and is probably the softest shooting .45 I've ever shot. The M&P has a sharper recoil, but still handles great. IMHO it does need trigger work. You can install the Apex kit or send it Bowie tactical etc. If you're use to a 1911, the M&P will probably feel closer to it.

Shoot them both yourself and see which one you like better, but I don't think you can go wrong either way.

They are both badass. I like the way that the M&P feels in my hands and it's a very nice shooter. If the mag disconnect is an issue, you can always get it fixed. If I were choosing for myself, I would get a G21SF. I'm a better shot with it and am already familiar with the Glock family.

Sold my G21......... I have large hands, and it still felt like the MOST unergonimic gun I have ever owned. Felt like a 2x4 in my hand. The M&P with the medium backstrap was the MOST comfortable .45 in the store. However, that day last week I bought a CZ P-01 instead. BTW, the CZ 97 was the second most comfortable .45 in the store.

Question: is the Glock 21 picky regarding ammo type? IMO, weapons that are picky about ammo type, are a "broken" weapon (cite ARs that won't feed steel). I shoot everything of the correct caliber through everything I own, and haven't had any issues. This could be a deal-breaker for me. Some day, I will take the 1911 plunge and almost have a few times, leaning towards a Kimber.

Gen3s eat anything and everything. Gen4 40 cal guns I have heard eat just about anything too.. The gen4 9mm seem to have some earlier problems with light 115g bullets even after the spring "fix" still pending on a "permanent" fix and confermation they can eat ANYTHING. But I have talked to a bunch of gen4 users and several say their guns run flawless.. Didn't specify on what ammo being used conditions ect. Also havnt seen any heavy torture tests been done on them yet. I'm almost tempted to do the pool shooting/mud drop test when I pick mine up to see for my self and be one of the first to see what they got.

                    More info needed on this.
What more info would you like? I just think .50 slide is win in my book lol

I would partly disagree with that statement.

Aftermarket parts? Other than the .50 GI Slide there really isn't going to be any real advantage for the Glock over the M&P. Magazines are a different story...

Ease of Cleaning and maintenance? Just about identical. Glock uses 2 tabs on either side of the frame, M&P used a single take down lever (plus sear deactivation lever on Magazine Disconnect models). Field stripping them side by side there is really no discernible advantage one holds over the other.

Reliability? Sure the Glock 21 was introduced in 1990 and the M&P was a late bloomer in 2007 but other than 17 years age difference, I don't think you would find anyone out there who has both pistols claiming that one holds a crown over the other in reliability. Except to say the M&P may be a little more forgiving on limp wristing.

Do to the fact that the Glock 21 was born in 1990 however you have the possibility of standard and high capacity magazines which you won't have on the M&P unless you are LEO or some such.

Dammit, I started out to show that the M&P can hold it's own against the Glock and might possibly have an edge of advantage but I think all i did was reinforce the G Fanboys debate... LOL Oh well...

I still say go out and shoot both and find out which is a better fit for you personally, that is the only way to know for sure. Both are excellent guns.

I never cared for the GLock grip angle. The M&P's suit me just fine.

But YOU need to go shoot them both, and decide what works best.

You sure it's the angle you don't like and not the hump? Usually I hear about the hump and people mistake the angle not feeling right when it's that useless hump

My friend has an m&p 40, I have a G21, we both shot in the rain one day, the next day his had a lot of rust on the slide, mine did not. The tenifer coating on the glock is excellent. Might be one thing to consider.

The M&P has a stainless steel barrel, slide, and structural compoents, how would that rust? Plus, the slide has a melonite finish. I'm not buying that. Nice second post.
