FrogLube on a bore snake

Yes, just put some FrogLube on the bore snake and run it through the barrel. We rocommend using it while the barrel is still warm from shooting or use a hair dryer. After you barrel is 'seasoned' from a couple applications of FrogLube, you may find you only need to use a couple of patches to clean it.

Since FrogLube comes as a paste and liquid, I would recommend the liquid for a bore snake, the paste tends to gum up in the bristles, when cool.

I just picked up two more bottles of FL this weekend. I will be making the change over on the rest of my weapons. My 1911 still looks like the day I seasoned it after 4 range trips. Pretty good stuff.

I'll have to give this froglube a try. I use a combo of Breakfree CLP and M7Pro for cleaning/lube.

Ya know... you can get a car air freshener in Hoppes #9.

Throw a few of your cleaning rags in with the laundry & you'll have that wonderful smell everywhere you go!

I will pick up a pack of Q-tips from the local store. As far as using Hoppes #9 for the barrel, that is an ammonia based cleaner which means I won't be able to use my brass rod/jag with it, correct?

As far as what to use on the outside of the gun to care for the parkerized finish, would you guys recommend using CLP, the ultima-lube, or a silicone cloth? Or perhaps use one of the lubes on the finish after each cleaning and then a silicone cloth before I put it in the box after each time the gun gets handled?

I use the silicone cloth anytime I feel the need to fondle it, it doesn't get used in the cleaning process except for a dedicated silicone rag I use to wipe it down with after I get done cleaning it completely and wiping up any excess oil with the tshirt...

The old faithful Hoppes #9 doesn't have ammonia in it. You can smell the ammonia in the solvent if it was in there. It smells like....ammonia.

You can use the brass with ammonia a few times in an emergency, but if you want to continue to use an ammonia based cleaner, you should get a different jag. One way to know if you are using an ammonia based cleaner (with a brass jag) is your patch will always come out green, even if you have not shot copper bullets.

Silicone cloth for sure after you handle it. Also for storage, you might want to look into getting a Bore Store. Those are lined with silicone inside.

MPro-7 is a product I really like. 2 cleaning rods with a jag and brush saves time changing out them. I am also a fan of the Otis CLP product. I rarely use a nylon bore brush. Q-tips are a must. Two silicon cloths for final wipe down.

Thanks for the replies. Well I am planning on using ultima-lube as the primary lube for the gun. I know CLP can also be used as lube but I just want to use a dedicated lubricant for the most wear protection.

So after cleaning and lubing, I'll be using the CLP again on the parkerized exterior. Then everytime I handle the gun, i'll give it a wipe down with a silicone cloth before putting it in the box.

Eventually i'll get hoppes #9 for the barrel but for now i'll just use the CLP to clean out the factory gunk.

Not good to me

I'll tell you a story about a parkerized 1911. I go into speak to the officer in charge of firearms at a local police dept. I go into the story about FrogLube and he pulls out a 1911 from his file cabinet.

He tells me that this is the cleanest gun on the planet. This parkerized .45 was given to it's owner at the end of WWII and it was handed over to the dept. after his death. The officer went on about how he was always cleaning and lubing it, that it was the cleanest gun on the planet.

He grabs a handful of FrogLube paste and starts rubbing it on the gun and his hands are turning black. That was how much carbon came off a "clean" gun with FrogLube. No brush, no cloth, no gloves, no mask and in a closed room with no windows.

It took four minutes for that police dept. with 120 officers to decide to make the switch to FrogLube.

All that stuff you bought is old hat. It is toxic and time consuming. But I do use Q Tips. If you are in the San Diego area, I will be happy to clean a weapon for anyone reading this post.
