Unidentifed old 1911 frame information request

I am looking for information on an old steel 1911 .45 frame. It has a Y and K stamped on alternate sides of the trigger guard and has a six digit serial number (27XXXX-X) plus a dash followed by a letter that looks like a C. Could this be a Federal Ordinance frame?

It would sure be a lot easier for those in the know if you could post some good pictures.

      Gotta have pictures

I will tell you this though. It is not an old USGI frame. They did not have any letters in the serial numbers.

Also, seeing as you say there is a "dash" between the numbers and the "C" I do not believe this is a Colt frame.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Definitely not a Commercial Colt frame. If you can; remove the slide and grips. Take pictures of both sides and make sure you get close ups of the "Y" and "K" stampings.

I could be wrong but it looks exactly like the early post war Colt Government I sold a couple of months ago, mine even had the C suffix serial to note commercial. Colt did not stamp the name and address info on the frames until sometime late in the 1960's.

Did yours have a "-" dash between the numbers and the "C"? I've never seen Colt do that.

Did someone place a bead of weld on the dust cover to 'tighten up' the slide/frame?

Yeah, it had been welded. That one was a very good shooter even with the standard sights, the welds were not real bad but enough to ruin collector interest.

Starting around 1950, Colt moved the "C" in the serial number to the end. Yours is from 1953 http://www.guncollectorsclub.com/1911.htm.
