Who says they aren't available in California?

You can get this and just about any other 1911 you want via Single Shot Exemption.

You could buy one using the single shot exemption. If you're in the bay area, Valkyrie arms can help you. If you're in the Fresno area, prk arms or Spencer firearms can help you get one. (Prk has a cheaper price, I asked already )

There's a thread somewhere. It's super easy, and then when you tire of the pistol you can sell it at a profit to Calgunners who will pay more than retail for a used off-list pistol... there are plenty of them.
