Colt, S&W, and Kimber. Still waiting on my Colt to come in. I want one 1911 since I am a rifle guy and handguns are just a side thing for me. Those were my 3 finalists...A neighbor has a Kimber and said if he had the money back then he would have bought a Colt but likes his Kimber nonetheless. I liked it as well. But as I said, one 1911...It went to the original - COLT.

      Depend on purpose...

I would go with Kimber CDP II.

      Nice bang for the buck.

That could be said for any (insert brand here) 1911. They are all copies of the original design. There's erally nothing special about any BRAND of 1911. It's the internals and fitting of them that matters. Having a Kimber and an SA to shoot back to back I have to say that both are excellent guns and rival a Colt anyday.

I think you should look fast and hard at the Colt Combat Elite, they're very well thought of pistols among Colt shooters.

Lol. Reading this thread makes my head hurt. Oh, the... choices!

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

people like to bash Kimber because they cant afford em or they spent way too much on their 1911 and need to justify it.

mine just shoots and has done so accurately for years and years with thousands of rounds down the barrel

I've got a CDP II -- it's listed on my NV CCW. It's a great pistol, easy to carry and fun to shoot. My wife likes to shoot it too.

Only Kimber I would buy is the SIS.

For the money, the Ruger SR1911 is a good buy if you can single shot it. Only thing is its got a cast frame which doesn't bother me at all.

The Sig1911 is a sweet shooter but it has an unconventional slide profile. Turner's had the TTT on sale for $900.

The SW1911 is another winner in your price range.

Otherwise, there's alot of nice 1911's in the classifieds around your price range.

the sig unconventional slide profile intrigues me but also discourages me because it looks so different. i think i might take another look at the colt commander. thank you all. it is narrowing it down for me. i am thinking a colt or kimber

Kimber gets a bad wrap, but ive had great experiences with them.

Used Les Baer sounds like a good idea.

...best 1911 value there is regardless IMO.
i paid 599 for my then nib CII three year ago, unlike my other 5 1911s(including a 1800$ Baer)....i'm keeping the Kimber.
