Help picking up a gun

Hmm just left the gun store it seems I cant get the elite version they are saying its not legal in cali im going to yhe other store to see what else they have maybe an HK USP 40 if ever i cant get a sig elite

My first gun was a Springfield XD .40, great gun with an ambidextrous mag release button (I'm a lefty) fired a good few rounds through it and got really comfortable with it.

Then bought a Beretta M9, cheaper to run at the range and lets me leave the XD as a dedicated home defense weapon. Still bring it to the range once a month.

Now looking for a 1911 (thinking Kimber, Springfield or Dan Wesson) in .45 just to have a .45. This will be more of a semi-safe queen

The M9 was a great gun and very accurate out of the box. The 9mm is a cheaper round to buy, recently got 400 rounds for $80 in Wally world.

I feel ripped off when i pay more than $10.47 +tax = approx $11.50 for a box of 9mm fmj's (federal champion, walmart). I do live 35 minutes away from the nearest walmart so when i do go i get atleast 6-10 boxes (take someone with you because walmart has a 6 boxes per person limit on ammo). Sometimes i'll get the 250 box of reminton umc 9mm fmj's from big 5 when their on sale for $60. After the cost of gas and drive, you break even pretty much.

Pretty muvh everyone likes a 9mm and I have to agree woth the cost on the ammo it does make a difference anyone near san bernardino who could recomend a gun store all i go to is in basspro shops and pretty much im stuck with what they have maybe if i have to choose at that store probably a HK USP9 or a USP40

You can find a walmart that sells ammo or maybe join in on the group ammo buys, check the thread i think its on the commercial sales forum....

The usual answer is go try everything then decide what you can shoot the best with. The caliber war is stupid don't listen to the people who say bigger is better because it is BS.

Since you haven't read the other hundreds of threads on Calguns about people asking what to get for their first gun and being told by a zillion other people to shoot everything then decide I am going to answer your question.

Get the FNP-9.

Definitely try out the H&K. To me, they just feel so solid and well made. Also, I just love the way they look...

I'd go with Sig P229 non-rail with .40S&W.

I have a 226 in 9mm, 229 in 40S&W, and HK45. I don't have experience with FN. The ergonomics on the HK45 is better than the USP for me. The Sigs fit well for me and I like the balance of it. Fire a few and see which one you like better. I looked at USP9 and p226 9mm and ended up buying the p226 because of ergonomics and less recoil.
