Sig issue :))))) Resolved!

I recently bought a used Sig 228 that is having some issues. It keeps stove piping and not ejecting the case correctly. I have tried 4 different mags and different ammo. My Hi-Power and glock 19 both dont have issues with the same ammo.


Any idea what parts need replacing? The previous owner said he replaced all the springs shortly before selling it.

Possibly look at the extractor assembly?

Can i tell by looking, or is this something that i could not tell by looking like a spring replacement?

maybe you can check how the extractor is grabbing and pulling by placing an empty cartridge in the barrel and racking the slide?

wouldnt that affect how it returns to battery? not so much the casing ejection? unless the guide rod is restricting the slide or something?? hmm...

Unless you are sure it has been shot very little, you may want to start by replacing the recoil spring. I have read that Sig recommends replacement on the P-series pistols every 5k rounds (may be as low as 3k, can't remember). Probably cost you less than $10.

After that, I would question if the proper springs are in there.

Backwards, worn recoil spring. Like others have said check the extractor.

+1, especially the correct recoil spring. BTW, is this a West German Sig (IE: German internal ejector/USA build external ejector)

Probably the recoil spring, spring not holding slide back long enough.

Guys... Forgive me for not understanding this. But doesnt the recoil spring push the slide back into battery? If anything, I would think that the spring is too stiff not allowing for proper slide moving back far enough.

Maybe the extractor pin is worn and not flipping the case out soon enough?

Springs have been replaced, that is what the last owner said. Of course he could of lied but really i dont think he did.

The springs should have no more then 50 rds in them

Loading dummy rds that i have they eject just fine. I tried going fast and slow. Going real slow like a 3 second long pull back will still eject the rds except for last one. But i am going really slow. Normal speed just fine.
