Well, they're not illegal in CA, just off roster. You can get one if you are LEO or from a private party transfer.

For those that own a Gen4, how much should the OP expect to pay (new and/or used prices)?

Had a Gen 4 G17. Sold it to buy a Garand.
It was nice, but now I'm looking for a Gen 2 G17 (more for 90s nostalgia than anything else. It was in all the movies I grew up watching).

I'm a fan of the 21 love full size and 45 ACP. looking to pick one up next month
I agree. Even if they had made the plate a little bit cooler or streamlined it with the grip it would have looked nice. They didn't even try haha.

They are not illegal, I bought my Glock 22 Gen.4 from PRK in Fresno, Ca. a couple months ago, went back today and bought a Tauras PT 1911 in 9mm.

But how can that be, they are not on the Roster?

If you cant get the guns you want, shop elsewhere

                        Get the Gen4 G35. Personally, I'm waiting for the Gen4 G34.

Because they are not on the "safe handgun roster" and can't be added due to lacking an magazine disconnect safety and a loaded chamber indicator (it might have an LCI, I don't remember, but no MDS)
So you either have to buy one PPT, consignment, LEO exemption, or single-shot exemption (the way they do AR pistols at RifleGear, for reference).
Or you can move here from out of state with one you already owned or do an interfamiliar/out of state transfer with a parent or child.

That is why they have commanded a premium here. They can be had in Arizona all day for $525, but you won't find a used one here for under $700.
Same thing with XDM, LCP/P3AT, off list 1911s, etc.

I'm pretty sure I already tried to explain this to many people who have posted in this thread but...

Boo that's retarded! So pretty much me getting one isn't going to happen soon.... =/ the only reason I want one so bad is cause I heard they had some slim grips you can pop on the back and make the grip manageable..
