    Colt XSE .45

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Colt XSE .45. There's two options, the regular XSE and the lightweight XSE.

Besides weight, is there an advantage of having a lightweight aluminium receiver over a regular one? Are aluminum receivers less rugged than the regular ones?

Buds had one a few months ago for 920 and I was debating on it and then they were gone. the lightweight model isn't on the roster so you would have to get one through single shot. Colt goes through runs with each model so I would give them a call to see when they plan on making a batch. You can try reeds indoor range in San jose if you are in the bay area because they had a blued model a few months ago.

Well, my aluminum framed colt commander dings quit a bit more from average usage compared to my steel framed 1911's. If that answers anything.

I like the alloy frames for a ccw piece; but I also use magazines with followers that can't tilt and chew up the frame feed ramp which is a pretty common problem on alloy framed 1911's. For extensive range use I prefer the steel framed models.

Jeff Cooper liked the alloy framed LW Commanders, but not so much the steel framed Combat Commanders. His contention was that if youre going with the weight of a steel frame get the added reliability and sight radius of a 5" slide.

Personally I like the balance and appearance of the Commanders in both frame material.

"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

So what's the purpose of aluminum receivers though? Is it only to be lighter(improve weight)?

Steel frames are very heavy. If you plan to carry it, the lighter weight gun is a better option. Otherwise it feels like you are getting pantsed all day long.

Ah, I understand, so this is nothing but a weight thing.

You better get that Colt XSE ordered...I just ordered the SS one about a month ago and still nothing. I am getting concerned since I want with the the 100 Years of Service. I saw one but did not think much of it then...Now I wish I had bought it. The heft of the Colt was just right for me. I personally do not want anything light. Everything has been a struggle in my life why make it easier hahaha.

Go for the regular XSE, mine works great. If you want to go light weight go for a Glock, or atlest that is what I did. I went with a stainless steel XSE but now regret it, I wish I would have gone for the blued steel XSE. Just color preference, and the black XSE looks more tacticool.

i just picked up my O1991, the XSE is next on my list

im used to the steel frames, so id get the standard XSE, not to mention you dont have to do the single shot dance to get it

I just picked up a 01991 about three weeks ago and I love it. It will go through whatever reloads I feed it

Did they give any kind of estimated time of arrival? even a rough estimate? I really want an XSE to customize it and shoot the **** out of it. I just can bring myself to modify my old colts.

Haven't ordered mine yet but I'm thinking of doing so very soon.

Valkyrie has the Colt xse in stainless with 100 years of service roll mark. I saw it last night while picking up some things.
