    old colt supermatch

    A friend of mine wants to sell me his colt
    super match
    chambered in 38 super
    and the SN#45XX
    condition is bad blue almost wore off and some pitting can barley read the letters on the left side
    any one have any info on this as far as value and what year it is.

    second thing is he has had this gun for over 40 years
    do i have to do paper work on it ?
    and how do i find out if it was ever stolen

    Let me start by saying this in the nicest way possible.

    Go and kick your friend in the *****. If he's had it for 40+ years and it's in this shape he should not own any guns.

    Sorry for the out bust.

    This is one of the reasons I'm so up set. Based on the serial number this gun is FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION; which is 1929. And, seeing as it is a Super Match; in 90-98% condition I couldn't even start to tell you how much this gun might be worth.

    But based on your description I would rate it at about 10-15% the most I would pay for something in this condition would be about $250-$350. Maybe not even that much. I would really need to see it to make a better decision.

    Seeing as it's a handgun California laws requires that it be transfer through a FFL.

    Call your LEO and ask them to run the serial number to see if it is stolen. Don't be surprised if they ask you to bring it in. That way if it is stolen they can take it from on the spot.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

        gave them a call over the phone (about 8 years ago), one of the historians told me the year of the make within seconds.
