DROS address

I finally decided to get a new handgun and was getting the paper work going when he asked if my CA DL address was correct. It's old and I said so, which is the same address on the auto registration. Can't run a DROS if the address is wrong he says. I moved about 8 months ago and intend to move again in the next month or two so I don't wanna do an address change until I move into our next more permanent place. BTW, the particular hg in question is on sale.

What I've done for the 3 guns I've bought since I moved last October, is file an address change with the dmv online. Then go to dmv and ask for a printout of your driving record. That is an official govt issued document that will now show your current address.

Worked form me for two DROS and my actual license still has the old address on it.

Don't know for sure, but it would make sense to have the address you are DROS'ing as be the same as the address the DMV has on file for you at day 10 of your DROS (since they might not do the check until the last minute).

Also you may not be aware but it is actually illegal to fail to notify the DMV of your move within 10 days. Violation is a $214 fine last I checked. CA VC 14600(a)

But, if you don't have any acceptable paperwork that will prove Proof of Residency with your CURRENT address, you can't buy a handgun.

I would also call your FFL and see what they need. Asking my FFL + using the calguns list I was able to get out of a similar situation. What are you getting btw?

I had my car registration and utility bills with current address but my DL was different and the store would not start my DROS. I had all kinds of proof of my current address except DL and rejected from this particular store. But it depends on the store too because i made my purchase at another store.

I had the same issue when I tried to purchase a gun at sportsmans warehouse. It must be their store policy because I've purchased 2 guns since. I just showed an information request from DMV that showed my address had been changed and also took a utility bill.

My DL was renewed in Jan. of 2010. I moved in March of last year.
Of course I did notify DMV about the address change. My DL however still has the old address shown. I wrote myself the new address on the back of my DL.
Since I've moved a year ago, I bought 4 handguns, and 2 long guns in different places. Never had a problem with DROS. Needles to say, that the car registration slips from DMV show my recent address.
No big deal. No one had ever given me a hard time because of that.
Secret: Notify DMV about your recent place of living.....glue the sticker with your new address on the back of your DL, and......go shopping for a new gun.

I bought a couple of long guns last year right after I had moved. I just went onto the DMV web site and changed the address on my license and took the print out in when I made the purchase. The FFL actually told me how to do this.

I think you have to be sure and print the form or screen at the end of the process or its gone for good once you close your browser.

I've had different experiences with this at different dealers. 3 Separate dealers were ok with doing the paperwork with the old address on my license but with a current car registration.

The last dealer I went to (#4) said I needed either the DMV brown card or a screenshot printout from the DMV website showing the current address that matched the car registration.
