I also dont care to carry anything bigger than a keychain light unless I can anticipate a need. I have a Fenix & an Eagletac in the bedroom but carry an iTP A3 on my keychain. Uses a single AAA battery has 3 brightness settings; 1.5 lumens, 18 lumens, & 80 lumens.

Mounted lights are nice to have. But a handheld is a must IMO. We're not LEO's searching a meth lab or chasing a dangerous felon. Most of the time we're just investigating a bump in the night or lighting up a dark parking lot. You need a seperate light. Not every dark corner not every noise in the dark is a threat. Handhelds are a must for LEO's too.

For flashlight used in conjunction with a handgun a single mode flashlight where you get instant bright light is a must. A flashlight where you have to scroll through different modes is not something you want to deal with under stress and immediate threat.

My personal choice is a Surefire L4. Just slim and small enough for EDC. Just enough throw outdoors and a nice "wall of light" indoors. I have a LX2 and an Aviator and they could work fine as well but just a tad too large for EDC. The Surefire Backup is a nice smaller alternative. I trust Surefire and think they're worth the investment.

I always carry a flashlight with me, I use it regularly, unlike the firearm i carry( with exceptions to training time). Hopefully it stays that way. You never know when there will be a blackout, or you loose the saftey detent spring from your AR and cant find it.

A flashlight is a good idea to carry with or without the gun. I've been in a building when the power went out and the emergency/backup lights didn't come on......it's a bit dark.

+1 To having a flashlight 24/7 for other reasons not gun related...

A flashlight is likely to be far more 'practical' in an everyday sense than a firearm.. I'm overseas right now and the power out here is consistent.. CONSISTENTLY turned off at random times that is..

We have a backup generator, but yea.. I wish I had my ARC or a Fenix cell with me..

FWIR, most defensive uses of handguns occur at low/no light so the chances are pretty high that you may need a light.

If I'm out at night I will either carry my 1 cell Nitecore or I always have a Surefire in the car that I'll clip to my pocket if I forget it.

This is my wallet. Fits in my front pocket:

Methinks you do want a flashlight. Get a 4sevens, Fenix, Surefire, or HDS.

For a less expensive every day light, I highly recommend the Quark or Quark Tactical. If you are willing to spend more, get a Surefire E1B Backup, with the optional diffuser cap.

For HD... useful. For CCW its pointless unless you are a paranoid nut who is constantly waiting for a movie to happen in real life. Gh3t ril yo

Unless you're deployed somewhere, I'm guessing you'll get more use out of having a good flashlight handy then you would your firearm, at least I would hope. They're very handy tools to have.
