    Flashlights?

I have recently been CCW legally. I have been doing some research and I see the topic of flashlights keep coming up. I really don't want to carry more weight than I need to. The way I justify it is if something goes down and you have to reach for something it would be the gun screw the flashlight. If I'm in an area that's too dark maybe I should do the best to avoid it.

I totally agree of their use in the home role or in my vehicle but carrying it on me at all times with my gun... I don't know.

What do you guys think and how do you employ them.

I don't think most people who carry a gun also carry a light for target identification. But we all have one at home, either a handheld or on the gun. I have an Eagletac nightstand light that would blind a helicopter....and outside, I am never without one...but it's not for defense, I just want to always have one on me since they come in so handy...pick up a nice little Fenix EO1 for you keychain off amazon for around 10 bucks....and of course, if you don't have a good tactical light for the home, look into them...
3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

I like the Safariland RLS but you don't necessarily need it for CCW. I think it's a good idea to have a light to go with your pistol. A blinding light is a good way to have an initial advantage over an adversary.

Have you seen the following webpage yet?

"When you get the (men) to the range, you just get the men. But when you bring the (women) to the range, you get the (whole family). And that's what's going to save our 2nd Amendment."--Dianna Liedorff

"Since self-preservation is the 1st law of nature, we assert the...right to self-defense. The Constitution...clearly affirms the right of every American...to bear arms. And as Americans, we will not give up a single right guaranteed under the Constitution." --Malcolm X

For a flashlight that doesn't get in the way, Fenix makes great single cell torches. I hang a LD 10 off my keychain which uses a aklaline AA. They have it in AAA and CR123 applications as well.

Much better than hauling around a Surefire on the batbelt.

I'd carry a small flashlight. You never know when you could need the light.

imho, it doesn't take up much real estate to carry a light and odds are it's going to provide a hell of a lot more utility than some of the other gear...

I'm a big fan of Surefire. There are a lot of nice lights out there but their products are my favorite. I have my LX2 Lumamax in my car or my pack at all times.

I have the insifght M6, love it but its only purpose for me is in my nightstand with my Beretta. If you are using it for ccw, would be nice to have it attached? I would think so you dont need to look for 2 things. Besides for CCW use, if you need to draw your weapon you are pretty much 90%+ going to fire. That would usually mean the badguy is close enough to cause harm.
But again better safe then sorry. Another thought, if you went with the m6 you would have to draw your weapon, with a separate flashlight, you have the option of drawing or not depending on circumstance.
Things get serious when you draw your weapon. Sorry for the long post but our hobby is one worth thinking through thoroughly.

Yea, I totally agree it's a must for the HD. But for CCW maybe if you have a nice setup like nosuchagency and don't mind I guess your good to go. I just wanted to get some other opinions since I'm a noob at this, and don't want to carry one.

As nice as that setup is, I wonder if it would be better to just have a light with a clip in your pocket. Putting it on a pouch seems like it would risk exposure when all you need is the light.

Then look at it this way...can you envision a self defense scenario on the street that would require you drawing your weapon and a light? If you can, get a tactical light and put it on your belt...if not, don't sweat it and get a keychain light.

I'm a big fan of this. I don't even own a weapon mounted light...for a pistol. It's nice to be able to grab just your light and clip it in your pocket when going for a hike/walk or what have you as well.

Im a big fan of the mounted light. IMO, you should never be looking anywhere other than where your gun is pointed unless you are trying to avoid sweeping friendlies. I look at it this way, if I have a mounted light I can retain the use of my off hand for various tasks that may arise like calling the police. The best would be to have both. But given only one choice it would be mounted.

That being said for a carry gun Id look for the smallest lightest light I could find. Battery life for a ccw would not be a concern for me. I would take a look at this one. Its shorter and lighter than an X300 and would fit my G19 better in a ccw roll.
