    Stupid .50 caliber question

So this question may belong under a different heading and if so please move it there.

Beyond the .50 DCT restriction for CA are there any other restrictions for .50 cal rifles anywhere else in the US. I'm at a case of beer bet with a buddy that I'm trying to sort out and he doesn't think that any US citizens are allowed to own .50 cals.

    Thanks.

CSACANNONEER to the red phone please.
The Range is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time shooting it.
The Real World is a place where you carry a gun around and spend most of your time not shooting it.
    Plan Accordingly.

They're everywhere...except here. And actually, the .50 DTC is legal, .50 BMG is illegal.

        I'm a U.S. Citizen and I own a .50 cal.

Go collect your beer of choice, just make sure one's a nice Belgian Tripel and send it my way.

.50 cals are 100% legal. Look in the centerfire forum, a member just bought a .50 big bohica upper from a group buy and constructed a pretty sweet 50.

Since this is in the handgun forum...
All commerically available .50 caliber handguns are legal in CA.
But, not all of them are on the approved list. So depending on what it is, it may have to be imported into CA as a single shot pistol or single-action revolver.

I still to toy with the idea of having a .50Beowulf AR pistol.

It is the intent of the Legislature in enacting this chapter to place restrictions on the use of these rifles and to establish a registration and permit procedure for their lawful sale and possession.
It specifically names the .50 bmg. All other .50 cals are just fine, which is why so many like the .50DTC since it's remarkably close to a .50BMG.

s&w 500 magnum is a blast to shoot....

.50BEO, be prepared for your ears to bleed. Wear muffs and plugs and a helmet and wrap a towel under it. lol. That thing's beastly on its own, but when you make a pistol of it, you'll need a compensator, and a compensator will be channeling all that gas (and noise) back at you.

Isn't the law specifically related to .50 BMG rifles? This way I could have a .50 BMG with butterfly handles and thumb my nose at CA DOJ? Now if I could only afford one.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

I'm not even going to get into all the different ways that 50s are legal in Cal and every other state. Just let your friend go to the FCSA websight and look at our match schedual. If 50s weren't legal, how could we hold matches with them? Now that you can prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt, you owe me a 6 pack.

If your friend is willing to pay for the ammo and a modest cleaning fee, he can shoot one of mine.

Why? The OP could bring him to a 50 match IN California and see a bunch of 50BMGs being legally used right here. Our out of state competitors even LEGALLY import their 50BMGs from out of state for the match. Many of us Californians just shoot our LEGAL 50BMGs at the match. Some Californians shoot their legal .510 DTC or other wildcats in .50cal at the match too.
