Old Smith Auto's

Me and my buddies interests have been in some Smith autoloaders as of lately. the 5906/4906. Anyone have one? Do you like them? I handled one years ago, and liked it, not as much as my Sigs/Glocks, but I want a range gun and if it turns out to be really nice, could be a HD gun too. I dont mind weight so I already know its a heavy gun. Are 10 rounders hard to find?

They will last forever. I went to the armorer's school for them, great range gun. I like them better than the Glock, but that's just me. Glock's are great if your into them.

In my opinion Glocks and Sigs are just so nice its ridiculous. But I recently held a smith auto, and my local pd had them until recently, they went with HK's. Anyone know how much they go for usually? 10 rounders harder to find?

It's whatever you prefer..... I have never been a big polymer fan, but I do own one Glock still. It just sits in the safe though. I have seen them go for anywhere from 300-500 depending on the condition. PD turn in's being on the lower side. 10 round mags, not sure but I would check midway to see if someone still makes them. I would imagine they do.

Yea that's the issue. I really want one but if there's no 10 rounders I'm screwed.

On midway in stock for 25... probably find them cheaper if you shop though. I haven't bought anything from them in a long time.

5906/4006 are stainless guns, so heavy. Generally agreed that they are built like tanks and will last forever.

Trigger is not as smooth as some other autos, I think this is usually attributed to the mag safety.

There are lots of them around, so plenty of different grip options have been available.

Most people find them pretty accurate as long as they can get a good fit to their hand (grip options help here).

In summary, good range or HD gun.

I like the First Gen M59 and M39. As well as the Second Gen versions. I have a second Gen M459. It has proven to be a reliable and accurate pistol, although I will admit I don't care for the mag disconect safety.
The Third Gen pistols never felt good in my hand for some reason.

Smith autos are pretty fantastic (especially the 3rd generation if you are/were a fan of Miami Vice, bwaha).

They are built like tanks, they run forever, and you can pound tent stakes into the ground if you had to...

My only complaint is that the triggers are loooooong. The double-action trigger especially is like "dragging a laundry bag full of rocks up a long gravel driveway".

But they are solid, awesome guns.

Sold my very first gun, a s&w 659 to buy a 1006, man that was a beast, sold that here on calguns a couple of years ago. Since Ive bought a 659 and a 5906, I love those guns

I have a 669. I love it and it was my backup and off duty carry gun for years. It shoots great and the first time I fired it I scored "expert" (275 out of 300 pts) at 25 yards. It is built solid and will last forever. Trigger pull is long on D/A but managable. Magazine disconnect was never an issue. I've had mine since around 1987-88 or so.
