Indoor Range ediquette

So I was at my local range the other day, and a guy in the lane next to me had his target no more than 3 feet away from him, shooting a .32 (he said).

The paper target is held up with a metal clamp, and I was concerned about a ricochet. He was all over the place on his target (using a laser no less). I moved lanes to be farther away from him, but thinking I should have said something...

I asked him what he was doing, why so close and he said he was trying out his laser .. anyway I did NOT feel comfortable being next to this guy the target felt like it was right in my face...


being paranoid or good choice moving lanes?

Good choice, better safe than sorry. The bullet CAN splash back frag at you.

IMO If your gut tells you "unsafe-get away", pack up and move over a few lanes.

Yeah, do what ever you feel that is safe. If he's shooting all over the place, and the target is so close, there might be a chance he'll hit the metal clamps and bounce that bullet toward somewhere else. Maybe you've talk to him and suggest some tips on how to shoot, in a non offensive way of course.

Good choice. I don't need much to request a lane change. If the people next to me seem like they don't know what they are doing, and I feel like I'm in a bad place....time to get away!!!

Lane change definitely warranted. Not worth telling the guy directly as he may have gotten really offended - let the RO know instead.

It amazes me how stupid people can be. If you are all over the place when shooting. SLOW DOWN! and aim.

they have video cameras there, and by the time I was done he was gone, there was only one other shooter there and he was next to me (far enough away) but he was watching this guy in amazement too...

It was something to see, 3 feet may be too generous ...

Knowing that I have a 6" group at 3 yards shooting as fast as I can (indexing on gun for sighting), I figure that I can do a 2" group at 3'... to be all over the target at that range is just

/\/\/\/\ The last time I was at an indoor range, a guy was showing his girlfriend "how to shoot."

On top seeing the laser bounce all over the place (ceiling, walls, my target, etc), I packed it up after seeing the laser pointing on my divider with them standing next to and slightly behind me.

No thanks. I don't need to be there that badly.
